MUNICH (AP) — Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany on Tuesday signed a two-year contract extension with the German champions until 2029.
The former Manchester City and Belgium defender joined Bayern ahead of the 2024-25 season and won the Bundesliga in his first year at the club.
Bayern have won their first seven league games this season and have a five-point lead.
“I am grateful and honored and would like to thank Bayern for the trust and working environment they have given me from day one,” said Kompany, 39.
“I feel like I’ve been here for so long and I know the club so well. It’s been a great experience so far. A great journey has begun.”
Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dresen said Kompany had “bred the fun back to Bayern and that spark has really spread”.
“Under his leadership, we have developed a true team that plays dominant and attractive football,” Dresen said. “(The contract) extension is also a signal to the players.”
Kompany was previously manager at Burnley, who were forced to avoid relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2023-24 season.
