BERLIN (AP) — Danilo Doek’s first-half double gave Union Berlin a 3-1 victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, extending its worst start to the Bundesliga on Friday.
Gladbach entered the game as the only team out of the league’s 20 without a win after six games of the season, but they were behind after three minutes.
Following Doek’s unstoppable header from a corner kick, he was quickest to react and score a rebound goal to Ilyas Ansar’s shot that hit the post and came back.
Seven minutes later, Gladbach pulled one back when Haris Tabakovic fired into the far corner.
The visiting Gladbach made plenty of plays in a busy second half, but were unable to score an equalizer, and the situation was even more dire when Rani Khedira scored Union’s third goal in the 81st minute.
As a result, Union moved up to 7th place. Gladbach fell to the bottom of the Bundesliga.
