Angel City forward Kristen Press has announced that she will retire from professional soccer after the National Women’s Soccer League season.
Press, 36, won Women’s World Cup titles with the United States in 2015 and 2019 and won a bronze medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. During his 10 years with the national team, he played in 155 games, scoring 64 goals and providing 43 assists.
Press played professionally in Sweden and has played in the NWSL with the Chicago Red Stars, Utah Royals and Angel City, in addition to his stint with Manchester City.
Press, a California native, was the first player signed by Angel City in 2022. She scored two goals in eight games with the team before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. She underwent four surgeries before returning last season.
“It’s hard to find the words to say goodbye to a sport that has defined my life for over 30 years. Football has given me everything and I will miss being on the pitch so much. I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, coaches and community for this amazing journey,” the Press said in a statement published Wednesday.
Press is one of the founders of RE-INC., a commercial and advocacy platform on equity issues; Popular Women’s Soccer YouTube Series RE-CAP show with fellow former varsity player Mrs. Tobin Heath. Mr. Heath retired earlier this year.

Reporters announced her retirement on Good Morning America on Wednesday. Angel City will honor her on Sunday when the team hosts the Portland Thorns.
