Bayern Munich’s improved offer of around £70 million for striker Harry Kane was rejected, according to The Times’ Constantin Eckner.
Kane is reportedly eager to join Bayern and notified Tottenham Hotspur of his desire to leave after the rejection of the Bundesliga champions’ initial £60-million proposal.
Despite Spurs’ quick refusal of Bayern’s second approach, sources told Eckner that the club may accept a bid in the region of £100 million. The German giants are reportedly confident that a deal can be struck during the summer transfer window.
However, Spurs remain hopeful of re-signing the 29-year-old to a new contract if Bayern don’t submit a tempting offer, The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare reports. Kane will be available on a free transfer when his current terms expire on June 30, 2024.
New Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou said during a press conference Monday that he’d had no assurances from the club on Kane’s future but stated he was excited to work with him in north London.
“Harry Kane is one of the premier strikers in the world, and I want him involved here,” Postecoglou said, according to BBC Sport. “I want to make this club successful, and there’s no doubt that’s what he wants.”
Kane recorded his second 30-goal season in the Premier League last term. He also beat Jimmy Greaves’ all-time Tottenham goalscoring record, but his exploits weren’t enough to help eighth-place Spurs qualify for Europe.
