Wales will face the UK at Wembley next week, and the Welsh Football Association has announced a special initiative that includes people living with dementia<\/h2>\n

The Welsh and British players will be accompanying Wembley’s pitch by people living with dementia for international friendship next week.<\/p>\n
This joint initiative between the Welsh Football Association, the FA, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Association will see 22 nominated supporters of dementia in place of the traditional child mascot to stand with players during the national anthem and raise awareness of the condition.<\/p>\n
In the symbolic act of emphasizing memory loss, a common symptom of dementia, the Welsh player removes his name from his shirt later in the match.<\/p>\n

Craig Bellamy’s team will face longtime rivals before a critical World Cup qualifier against Belgium in Cardiff just four days later. This particular match between Wales and England is of special importance to families affected by dementia.<\/p>\n
Among those stepping into the Wembley pitch is Cardiff City’s Fun Chris Griffith, who is actively involved in the 1927 club of the Cardiff City Foundation, a support group for people with dementia.<\/p>\n
“Soccer is generally a big part of his life and I think it helps bring everyone together and give them a talk,” said Lee, Chris’ son.<\/p>\n
“I think that’s what he values \u200b\u200babove all else. Everyone is with him and he just enjoys any event.<\/p>\n
“It was a shock before my diagnosis, but as you can see, he is still full of fun and I am truly grateful for his experience at Wembley.”<\/p>\n
FAW CEO Noel Mooney has made it clear that he is happy to support charity along with the FA by raising awareness of such important opportunities.<\/p>\n

Mooney explained: \u201cAt FAW, we believe that football has a unique power to bring people together, unite our communities and shed light on important issues like dementia, which is why we are proud to be with the Alzheimer’s Disease Association and Football Association in this historic moment at Wembley.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy going out with fans who live with dementia, we send a clear message that no one will face just dementia, providing a united team on and off the pitch with the care, compassion and understanding needed to support those affected by this condition.<\/p>\n
“We encourage you to join us to support this cause and help raise awareness, funding and hope for the future of all affected people. Together, we can make a difference.”<\/p>\n
Alex Hyde Smith, chief marketing officer of the Alzheimer’s Association, continued.<\/p>\n
“Betting dementia requires the ultimate team effort, and soccer is the ultimate team game. Players need to support their teammates, coaching staff and fans. Similarly, people affected by dementia need a team of family, caregivers and doctors.<\/p>\n
