HARRISON, N.J. (AP) — It’s been a whirlwind year for Gotham midfielder Jedin Shaw.<\/p>\n
Gotham won her out of North Carolina’s courage when she joined the club earlier this month, shortly after a deal that made her headlines. National Women’s Football League record is $1.25 million<\/span> With intriguing transfer funds – the team has been her third over the years, sending her from coast to coast.<\/p>\nBut when the 20-year-old first shot his new home pitch for Gotham’s 3-0 Portland Thorns’ 3-0 defeat on Friday night, the New York City suburb quickly became a crowd favorite at Sports Illustrated Stadium, making it seem like a proper landing spot.<\/p>\n
“The coaching staff and all of my teammates really helped me just feel comfortable here,” Shaw said. “It was a seamless transition to a group.”<\/p>\n
Her first appearance in Gotham came on September 12th. score<\/span> A 2-0 victory over San Diego Wave – the team she played before it was shipped to North Carolina.<\/p>\nShow, who played Portland on Friday night, supported Midge Perth’s goal.<\/p>\n
“When you bring in such a player, you not only bring someone with a lot of experience already, but at the same time, I think we’re just scratching the surface of what she can do,” Gotham midfielder Rose Lovell said.<\/p>\n
Fans of the show hope that trade could cause a comeback like a young player who has her set-off.<\/p>\n
The recent omissions from national team training and Olympic-end injuries have bleaked some expectations surrounding her international contributions, and her time in North Carolina did not reveal how she wanted. In 19 games against The Courage, Shaw had three goals and one assist, and her time diminished as the season progressed.<\/p>\n
That wasn’t the cause of concern for Gotham coach Juan Carlos Amoros.<\/p>\n
“If you ask how many games Estelle Gonzalez played for her club before joining us, the answer is zero,” Amoros said, referring to the league topping scorer for his team. “She didn’t play at all, but we believed she was a great player who could help us. And three years later, she’s one of the best in the league and in the world.”<\/p>\n
Trade from North Carolina has dropped the show in the middle of the top playoff contenders – largely thanks to Gonzalez – which means the show will continue her development on the big stage.<\/p>\n
“I’m grateful to be part of these headlines and records,” Shaw said.<\/p>\n
