jEuropean clubs, especially in the Premier League, are synonymous with greatness, offering the opportunity to compete among football elites and compete against the best players in the world. That was pretty much the case for Matt Freeze, who was offered to join Manchester United, one of the league’s giants in 2017.

Nonetheless, life had a different plan for Matt Fries, who ultimately refused the offer for incredible reasons. The goalkeeper recently revealed in an interview the true story behind his decision to turn down Manchester United. His explanation sheds light on the choices that define careers that have surprised many in the world of football.

The real reason Matt Freeze turned down Manchester United

Matt Freeze became one of the USMNT’s rising stars and stood out as a key figure in the goal during the Gold Cup, facilitating the team’s push to the finals. His performance made his name resonated among the stars and stripes fans. Now Freeze has revealed an important anecdote about how close he has once been to landing in the Premier League.

In an interview with Roger Bennett, male and CEO of Blazers Media Network, Bennett opened up about his nearly experience joining Manchester United as a teenager in 2017.

However, according to Bennett, he chose to continue the freeze and was offered an apprenticeship contract with Manchester United that year. His research at Harvard University pursues economics like several members of his family, instead of starting a career in the UK.

Freeze, the current goalkeeper for New York City FC, admitted his regret over not joining Manchester United and revealed he followed the advice of his family at the time. “It was mainly a family decision. I think a lot of parents agree. At one point, you had to focus on your studies and they wanted me to try it out. I decided I wanted to go for 12 months and then start a professional career,” Freeze explained.

Nevertheless, the goalkeeper admitted it was far from an easy decision. “There were some tough conversations between me and my parents about this, and there was a clear path I wanted to continue, but I had to respect what they wanted.

Matt Freeze was able to follow in the footsteps of Tim Howard, the only USMNT goalkeeper to wear a Manchester United shirt between 2003 and 2007.

Matt Freeze continues his career at New York City FC

Fans in New York City have reason to celebrate as goalkeeper Matt Freeze has confirmed that he will stay with the club for a long time. Speaking about the Blazers live men’s show, Freeze revealed that he signed an extension of his contract to stay on the city side until 2030.

“I really believe in what we’re building here. Over the past few weeks, you’ve already seen a lot of growth and I’m really excited to continue moving forward with it,” Freeze said. “This is the perfect place to continue developing in the fields and locker rooms while representing such an incredible city.”
