We couldn’t get hooked. I knew, among other things, I needed to go back to the way of winning.

Javier Mascherano

Though they still have a long way from first place in the Eastern part of the Philadelphia Union, Intermiami is an eight-point drift but still has a chance to lead as they have three games in hand.

Our goal is to win the last seven games and finish first in the meeting

Javier Mascherano

Mascano was unable to call on Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez. Luis Suarez played the second of the three-match suspension MLS handed him over as he was spewed out by a member of the Sounders coaching staff in the League Cup final.

The Strikers will also need to provide six games of suspension in the 2026 League Cup.

Therefore, Messi led the Trident, completed by Tadeo Allende on the right, and the Jordi Alba, invented as the winger on the left. And Mascherano’s gambling paid off.

The Messi and Alba pairing ended with a 1-0 goal in 12 minutes, scored by the former Spanish international fullback.

Messi, who provided a great assist on the outside of his left foot, may have scored his second goal in the 27th minute, but he missed a 1-1 with a weak shot repelled by the left post.

Argentina made up for that mistake in the 40th minute, when they took advantage of a low cross from Jordi Alba to defeat the goalkeeper with a left-footed shot. This was Messi’s 20th goal of his MLS season.

In the second half, Intermiami had the opportunity to seal the victory with Ian Frey’s strong header, further increasing the score. Messi had the fourth goal in his boots, but he played goalkeeper Frey 1-1.

The Sounders scored a comforting goal thanks to Mexican OBED Vargas, with no chance of a comeback.

InterMiami still has three games to supplement, and sets its sights at the top spot of the union

Javier Mascherano: “None of us wants to see ourselves in this position because I don’t think the team deserves it.”

Intermiami coach Javier Mascherano of Argentina admitted that his team had an obligation to respond.

“We didn’t get hooked either. Above all, we knew we needed to go back to how to win. We had to score points. And we had to score points.”

“No one likes to see us in this position beyond three games less than their rivals, and no one thinks the team doesn’t deserve it,” the coach added.

“Today we won one. There are seven more. We have seven finals left. Our goal is to get all seven to finish first at the meeting,” he added.
