Former Liverpool and Barcelona star Luis Suarez has announced a written apology after appearing to have spit on Seattle Sounders staff in the League Cup final. Intermiami lost 3-0 in the tournament final. This sees the best teams in Major League Baseball football and Mexico’s La Liga MX fight it for glory.<\/p>\n
The North American football chief is understood to have launched an investigation into Suarez’s actions. Uruguay International was separated from Gene Ramirez, the Sounders security director, after appearing to have spit out his face.<\/p>\n
“First of all, I want to congratulate the Seattle Sounders on their League Cup victory,” Suarez wrote on Instagram, as translated by Athletic. “But even more importantly, I want to apologise for my actions at the end of the game. It was a moment filled with tension and frustration that should have happened at the end of the game, but it doesn’t justify my reaction. I made a mistake.<\/p>\n
“That’s not the image I want to portray in front of my family suffering from my errors, and (Intermiami) doesn’t deserve to be affected by this either.<\/p>\n
“We still know that many seasons will play. We will work together to achieve the goals that this club and its fans deserve.”<\/p>\n

InterMiami has issued its own statement following the incident. “Intermiami condemns the altercation that took place after the League Cup finals,” the club wrote. \u201cThese actions do not reflect the values \u200b\u200bof our sport, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n
“We are working closely with Leagues Cup and MLS executives to ensure that the situation is handled properly. We appreciate the continued support of our fans and our community.”<\/p>\n

The League Cup final itself ended with a comfortable sounder victory. Osaze de Rosario opened the score in the first half, with Alex Roldan doubled the lead from the penalty spot for six minutes from the time, and Paul Rothrock added in the second half.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, it’s going to attract attention from the incredible performances by the Seattle Sounders,” coach Brian Schmetzer said of the Suarez incident shortly after the victory. \u201cTheir players were irritated, which led to what was happening on the field that shouldn’t have happened.<\/p>\n
“Because it should not be a story. The story of the game isn’t something that happened after the game. I had a quiet moment with Messi on the field (after the game).<\/p>\n
