FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Intermiami forward Louis Suarez apologized Thursday for apologizing for his actions following the team’s defeat by the Seattle Sounders in the League Cup final earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Suarez – Long-time teammate of Lionel Messi of Intermi Amister – It looked like he was vomiting at a member of the Sounders staff,<\/span> Additionally, he grabbed at least one Seattle player by his neck during the post-match struggle. Major League Soccer and League Cup officials are investigating, and Suarez could face sanctions.<\/p>\n

“First of all, I want to congratulate the Seattle Sounders on their League Cup victory, but more than anything, I would like to apologise for my actions at the end of the match.” “It was a very tense and frustrating moment. Things should have happened right after the match, but it didn’t justify my reaction. I was wrong and I sincerely regret it.”<\/p>\n

“It’s not the image I want to portray, but also my family suffering from my mistakes, and my club that doesn’t deserve to be affected by this kind of thing.<\/p>\n

InterMiami also issued a statement Thursday without naming the players. The club has worked with both MLS and Leagues Cup staff to “ensure the situation is handled properly” and appreciates the fans’ continued support.<\/p>\n

“Intermiami condemns the altercation that took place after the League Cup finals,” the club wrote. “These actions do not reflect the values \u200b\u200bof our sport. We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards of sportsmanship on and off the pitch.”<\/p>\n

Suarez’s history is very colorful and extremely successful.<\/p>\n

Along with Suarez, Uruguay ended its 2020 World Cup shortage by reaching the semi-finals in 2010. He delivered Uruguay’s first Copa America title in 2011, his first in 16 years.<\/p>\n

He is also known for his infamous, intentional handball in the 2010 World Cup quarterfinals. He won a semi-final spot from Ghana and was banned three times to bite his opponent.<\/p>\n

Suarez has been involved in 16 Inter Miami goals (scoring six points and supporting 10 others) during MLS play this season, making him the second in the Messi-only team. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has 19 goals and 10 assists in this year’s MLS match.<\/p>\n

“We know there’s still a long season. We’re going to work together to achieve the success this club and all of its fans deserve,” Suarez wrote Thursday to close his statement. “A hug for everyone.”<\/p>\n
