Liverpool’s owner Fenway Sports Group has confirmed that a consortium led by businessman Amit Bhatia is interested in making a strategic minority investment.<\/h2>\n

Jeff Bezos has reportedly been approached about investing in Liverpool FC<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/div>\n
A consortium of companies negotiating to take a stake in Liverpool has reportedly approached Jeff Bezos. The founder and chairman of Amazon is the fourth richest person in the world, with a net worth of over \u00a3190bn.<\/p>\n
Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group confirmed on Tuesday that a consortium led by Amit Bhatia had expressed interest in investing in the Premier League club. Mr Bhatia was previously co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers.<\/p>\n
In a statement to sister title Liverpool Echo, FSG said: “An investment consortium led, managed and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club.”<\/p>\n
Sky News reported that Mr. Bezos spoke about Mr. Bhatia’s participation in the syndicate. However, they cite a source who claims that it is not certain whether the billionaire will invest.<\/p>\n
The consortium is believed to already have the backing of Mr Bhatia’s father-in-law, Lakshmi Mittal. He is worth more than 20 billion pounds and in May bought Indian Premier League cricket team Rajasthan Royals for more than 1 billion pounds.<\/p>\n
However, a person familiar with the situation said no investment deal had yet been signed with Liverpool and talks over a “significant minority stake” were only at a preliminary stage. FSG has signed a deal worth between \u00a382m and \u00a3164m with Dynasty Equity in 2023.<\/p>\n

Bezos was previously said to be interested in buying an NFL franchise. He was said to have interest in the Washington Commanders three years ago and was linked to the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks earlier this year.<\/p>\n
But investing in a Premier League club would be considerably cheaper than the \u00a34.5bn it would cost to buy the Commanders. Dynasty Equity’s deal valued Liverpool at that level, but Bhatia’s group is said to be considering only buying a 30% stake.<\/p>\n
Bezos’ Amazon has been increasingly interested in soccer in recent years. It started by broadcasting Premier League matches.<\/p>\n
