NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 A Uniform number 10<\/span> Sotheby’s announced Thursday that an item worn by Brazilian icon Pele in the 1958 World Cup final has sold for $4.9 million.<\/p>\n

Pele, People who died in 2022<\/span>He was 17 years old when he scored twice in Brazil’s 5-2 victory over hosts Sweden at Lasunda Stadium, and remains the youngest player to score in a World Cup final.<\/p>\n

According to Sotheby’s, the jersey worn by the Brazilian star is the second most expensive soccer shirt ever sold. Diego Maradona’s “Hand of God” jersey<\/span> It will be sold in 2022 for $9.3 million.<\/p>\n

The previous highest price for Pele memorabilia was $976,000 last month for a 1958 trading card, the auction house said.<\/p>\n

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pele, gave his roommate and teammate Dida a handmade shirt after the final.<\/p>\n

The jersey remained in Dida’s family for several decades before being placed in a museum in Brazil, where it was finally acquired in 2004. <\/p>\n
