The 27-year-old&#8217;s contract has been in place since early June, with United agreeing to pay Atalanta a fixed fee of \u00a335m and \u00a34m with potential for add-ons.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The Brazil international underwent early medical checks at the World Cup last month, but United requested further tests before making a final decision on his arrival. Ederson himself said during the tournament that the transfer was &#8220;virtually all resolved.&#8221; But on Friday, a bombshell report emerged from Italy claiming that United had refused to proceed with the transfer and informed Atalanta of their decision. The Serie A outfit insists Ederson is 100 percent fit and would be happy to welcome him back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Separate reports say Ederson will undergo further tests before United make a final decision. The Times reported that the transfer was in jeopardy due to a knee injury, but did not go so far as to say that the deal was broken.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The development comes as the Red Devils move closer to signing Chelsea midfielder Andrej Santos for \u00a348m. United&#8217;s main objective in the summer transfer window is to revamp their midfield, with Chelsea willing to offload the 22-year-old Brazilian.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Ederson is understood to be keen to join Michael Carrick&#8217;s squad, which could offer him Champions League football and a potentially key role.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Following Casemiro&#8217;s departure, Koby Mainu is now the only recognized senior central midfielder at Carrick&#8217;s disposal.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Mainoo is currently on international duty with England and will miss the opening games of pre-season. United have already seen several midfield targets fall from grace this summer, most notably Elliot Anderson&#8217;s move to Manchester City and Matheus Fernandes&#8217; move to West Ham.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>In addition to midfield reinforcements, the Red Devils are pursuing a new backup goalkeeper with Premier League pedigree.
