Gotham FC of the National Women’s Soccer League will play its games at the new Etihad Park in Queens, New York City starting in 2028.<\/p>\n
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul and New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani also made the announcement Tuesday, along with team officials.<\/p>\n
Gotham currently plays its home games at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. The move to Queens was made in partnership with New York City FC, a Major League Soccer club that is building the 25,000-seat Etihad Park.<\/p>\n
Gotham, the defending NWSL champions, will have their own locker room at the stadium.<\/p>\n
“Today’s announcement builds on the work we’ve done to make soccer more accessible and affordable for all New Yorkers, and this is an investment in young female athletes who are too often overlooked,” Mamdani said at a press conference. “Instead of begging their parents to take them to New Jersey, girls who grew up in Jackson Heights, Sunnyside, or Flushing will be able to ride the No. 7 train after school and watch the world’s best soccer players go to work. They can watch games at a price their families can afford. Tickets to Gotham FC games start at just $24.The past few weeks here in New York City have proven a truth that soccer fans have known for years: This game has an incredible power to bring people and communities together.<\/p>\n
NYCFC broke ground in 2024 on a stadium adjacent to the New York Mets’ Citi Field. It is scheduled to open in the summer of 2027, when MLS switches its schedule to a summer-to-spring calendar to match most European leagues.<\/p>\n
The stadium is scheduled to host men’s and women’s soccer matches during the 2028 Olympics. <\/p>\n
“From the earliest days of planning Etihad Park, our vision has been for Etihad Park to be more than just the home of New York City FC,” said NYCFC Vice Chairman Marty Edelman. \u201cWe aimed to bring the world game to the world’s boroughs and create a venue that would showcase the highest level of football, including women’s football.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gotham announced that current season ticket holders will have priority access to season tickets at the new stadium. The team also made season ticket deposits available for $28. <\/p>\n
\u201cWorld-class athletes deserve a world-class environment, and this move allows us to continue to raise the standards for our players, supporters and the game itself,\u201d said Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, majority owner and governor of the team. “Gotham FC shows what’s possible when you boldly invest in women’s soccer, and we’re committed to building the experience our fans deserve since they’ve believed in this club since the beginning.”<\/p>\n
Gotham will host the Queen’s Classic next week at Citi Field. Approximately 40,000 fans are expected to attend the game against the Washington Spirit. <\/p>\n
