Manager Thomas Tuchel has warned that England could be eliminated from the World Cup due to refereeing errors.<\/p>\n
Tuchel doubled down on refereeing standards at the World Cup, earning him the ire of referee Alireza Faghani and the team on VAR duty.<\/p>\n
A penalty was awarded against Harry Kane. Jarrell Quansah was sent off, leaving England’s manager to publicly question the standards of World Cup officials.<\/p>\n
The notable outburst came after Tuchel claimed officials were “out of line” and that they were “not good enough” and warned the German manager could force them out if he made another wrong decision.<\/p>\n
“It’s not good enough. They can send off any team at any time. It’s just not good enough. They’re just inconsistent and unreliable in matches,” Tuchel said.<\/p>\n
“Now we have two fourth officials who just step out of the coaching zone and yell at us. That’s not enough.<\/p>\n
\u201cEven though we give everything, decisions are overturned in very questionable ways. But it’s not just the big decisions, the small decisions, the consistency of the decisions that matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust being there, it feels like you\u2019re almost in the open ocean in front of the court and you don\u2019t know what\u2019s going to happen. They just aren\u2019t on the level.<\/p>\n

“You are playing at a high level now. The so-called weaker countries, the so-called small countries, they are also playing at the highest level, like we played against Congo. Cape Verde are also playing at the highest level. We need referees at the highest level.<\/p>\n
“There are only athletes out there. The game has changed a lot, but that’s not enough. It’s not enough for the players and it’s not enough for the game.”<\/p>\n
Tuchel was particularly dissatisfied with Kane’s punishment for a challenge on Mexico’s Brian Gutierrez, believing the German did not deserve a spot-kick.<\/p>\n
Tuchel added: “Do you really think Harry is thinking at this moment, ‘Oh, VAR!’? He just went towards the ball and there was contact. It’s a contact sport. “In the real world, there’s a way the game flows and the way the referees go, and some referees say, ‘No, we don’t allow a lot of contact.’ Some people say, ‘No, it’s an emotional game now, so we’ve let contact go.’<\/p>\n
“There was contact. You can’t look at a still image and say, “There was a foot between them. Now, I don’t even commit a foul and I get a red card. I don’t even commit a foul and I get a penalty.”<\/p>\n
