Granit Xhaka felt the opportunity to establish Sunderland in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The former Arsenal star, 32, left a top English flight for the Bundesliga two years ago. However, another move has continued in recent months, with Sunderland now returning the midfielder to the Premier League.<\/p>\n

Sunderland won promotion to top flight through last year’s playoffs, and the capture of Xhaka, a former key figure at Arsenal, is a major coup.<\/p>\n

Swiss International says he is “excited” following debates over the switch to the Light Stadium, hoping that his experience will help the Black Cat avoid an immediate return to the Championship.<\/p>\n

“I am extremely proud to be here,” Xhaka told the club’s official website after completing his move.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I spoke to the club, I was excited and felt the energy and mentality that all the people and players have. That’s exactly what I wanted and I have a very good feeling.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel ready to help my team with my experience, but there is also quality. I need to find myself on the pitch, but I don’t think this will be a big problem.<\/p>\n

Xhaka made 297 appearances during her time with Arsenal. He won two FA Cups and was part of the side that approached winning the title before moving on.<\/p>\n

Sunderland sports director Kristjaan Speakman feels that landing Xhaka is a sign of the club’s ambitions when he returns to top flight after eight years of absence.<\/p>\n

He added: “We are delighted to welcome Granite and his family to Sunderland. His arrival is our ambitions and our desire to build a team that our supporters are proud of in the Premier League. His achievements and quality need little introduction.<\/p>\n

“We look forward to helping him settle down at Wearside and are excited to see the impact he can make on the field and on our dressing room.”<\/p>\n
