Wednesday’s game against Brazil<\/span> In Miami Gardens, the high temperature reached 93 degrees Fahrenheit (34 degrees Celsius).<\/p>\n“I’m sweating in this kilt right now. I’m really sweating. It’s crazy hot,” said Hayden Sutherland, one of the thousands of fans who traveled to the United States for Scotland’s first World Cup appearance since 1998.<\/p>\n
Cloud cover brought some relief to fans at the home stadium of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. Some felt a peace they hadn’t felt since the Boston to Miami travel tour.<\/p>\n
However, with Scotland in the midst of a rare heatwave, the Tartan Army could not have fared any better back home. On Tuesday, temperatures reached an astonishing high of about 84 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius).<\/p>\n
However, the humidity in Miami continued to be unforgiving, with humidity fluctuating between 63% and 66% in the afternoon.<\/p>\n
Fellow Scottish fan Peter Wright said: “I’ve been to warm places and the humidity is killing me.” “Even walking 100 meters here makes me sweat a little. In Boston, I walked for miles, but it felt great.”<\/p>\n
Wright, like many other Scotland fans, wore a traditional knee-length kilt tied around his waist. Some said the quilt made them feel better, while others said it only increased their discomfort.<\/p>\n
Outside the stadium, Scottish fans fanned themselves out and looked for shade.<\/p>\n
How are the Scots coping?<\/p>\n
“Just beer,” said Hayden’s father, Wayne Sutherland. “We’re Scottish. No water, just beer.”<\/p>\n
As the Tartan Army occupation moves from Boston to Miami, bars are struggling to keep up with high demand for beer. While “beer barges” greeted fans in Miami, Boston bars had a tough time with patrons drinking in the streets.<\/p>\n
Despite the difficulties, the Tartan Army showed that nothing could hinder their experience in following the Scots. He barely sat in Wednesday’s 3-0 loss to Brazil, even though his team led from the first seven minutes.<\/p>\n
And all day long they shouted “No Scotland, No Party”.<\/p>\n
