Ismael Cohn appeared to break his leg during Canada’s World Cup win over Qatar, was carried off the field on a stretcher and went straight to hospital after the accident.<\/h2>\n

Canadian star Ismael Cohn will undergo surgery after sustaining a nasty injury in the game against Qatar. According to reports, the midfielder suffered a fractured fibula and tibia.<\/p>\n
Kone was stretchered off the field after a foul on Asim Madibo and was sent off for a challenge. The Canadian star was clearly in pain as soon as he hit the ground, and Madibo held his head in his hands.<\/p>\n
While Kone was receiving treatment, tensions rose among the players and on the sideline. There were voices of concern at the stadium, but the 24-year-old was able to wave to the crowd as he was carried away on a stretcher.<\/p>\n
After the match, Jesse Marsh confirmed that Cohn was in the hospital with his mother, Suzanne, preparing for surgery.<\/p>\n
The former Leeds manager also confirmed that Madibo came into the dressing room to apologize for the challenge.<\/p>\n
“I saw his feet. I knew something was wrong,” said Canadian captain Stephen Eustaquio, one of the first players to reach his teammates.<\/p>\n
“We’re going to miss (Konne). He has that X-factor that our team really needs.”<\/p>\n
Canada’s hat-trick hero Jonathan David questioned the need for the challenge that injured Cone. “There’s no point in playing if you can’t get the ball,” he said. \u201cIt just hurts people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coach Marsh was full of praise for Kone after Canada’s win, asserting that the player still has a big future. He said: “Ismael is a great kid.<\/p>\n
“He’s very imperfect, but that’s why I love him. He can do great things and then lose focus the next moment. He embodies a lot of the team. It’s a big loss for us.”<\/p>\n
“He will be fine. We will refer him to a good doctor. He has a big future and he will play a big role in everything we do.”<\/p>\n

Despite the circumstances, Canada defeated Qatar 6-0. Following the fourth goal, scored by Nathan Saliba in place of Kone, the team paid tribute to their injured star player.<\/p>\n
After scoring an impressive free-kick, Saliba requested a shirt with his teammates’ names and numbers on it. He held it aloft to the roar of the home crowd.<\/p>\n
