Lionel Messi is expected to remain at the World Cup despite news emerging that his father is having health problems.<\/p>\n
The Argentine icon’s family has released a statement confirming that Jorge Messi, 68, is suffering from health problems. Messi was overcome with emotion after scoring the first of his three goals in the World Cup opener against Algeria in Kansas. He later explained that the reason for his tears was because something had happened in his homeland.<\/p>\n
Argentina are scheduled to play Austria in Dallas next week, and Messi is expected to play.<\/p>\n
The statement also harshly criticized the false rumors being spread about Messi Sr. and appealed to the family to deal with the matter alone.<\/p>\n
“He is currently under medical supervision, is recovering and is doing well in his current condition,” the newspaper said.<\/p>\n
