Juli\u00e1n \u00c1lvarez’s agent has insisted that “no one has contacted us” when questioned about his sensational cross-city move to Real Madrid.<\/p>\n

The Atl\u00e9tico Madrid star is attracting a lot of attention heading into the summer, with La Liga rivals Barcelona and new Premier League champions Arsenal, both of whom have close links with the Argentine.<\/p>\n

Alvarez has been a key player for Atletico since arriving from Manchester City two years ago, scoring 20 goals last season. Despite Diego Simeone’s side being regulars in the Champions League, talk of a move for the striker is unlikely to subside.<\/p>\n

Rumors heated up last week when Real president Florentino Perez claimed he would offer \u00a3130m for an unknown player and gushed about the excitement it would generate. Alvarez is also one of the candidates.<\/p>\n

However, Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, when asked about the link, tempered the idea that anything is currently happening behind the scenes. “We have no information on this matter and no one has contacted us regarding this matter,” he told Mundo Deportivo.<\/p>\n

Atl\u00e9tico’s main players rarely seek a transfer. Antoine Griezmann, who joined Barcelona in 2019, was probably the last star to push on his exit, although he later returned.<\/p>\n

Simeone has been asked about the possibility of his main striker leaving Atletico, but insists he does not have an answer and insists Alvarez is likely to decide on his future. “This is not a question for me, this is a question for Julian,” he said. “I think he’s old enough to know what he’s going to do and has already made his decision.”<\/p>\n

Barcelona are in the market for more talent after Robert Lewandowski left the club when his contract expired. They have financial problems and that could be an issue, especially as they have just spent \u00a370m on Anthony Gordon.<\/p>\n

Arsenal has also been cited as a possibility, as their loss in the Champions League final highlighted the need for further quality in the final third. Victor Gokeres was signed last summer, but despite scoring over 20 goals for the Gunners, the Swede proved inconsistent. The fact that Arsenal could re-enter the market shows they are not completely satisfied or accept that they need more quality in attack.<\/p>\n
