CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) \u2014 Former French national team midfielder Lassana Diarra sues FIFA<\/span> The soccer association announced on Monday that it had settled the case with no payment, paying 65 million euros ($75 million) in compensation.<\/p>\n

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain player filed a claim for damages from FIFA and the Belgian Football Federation last year. landmark judgment<\/span> Regarding transfer regulations from the Supreme Court of the European Union in 2024.<\/p>\n

“Following the global agreement reached, Mr. Lassana Diarra and FIFA have resolved all legal proceedings between them,” FIFA said in a statement.<\/p>\n

“FIFA has neither admitted liability nor paid compensation.”<\/p>\n

It was unclear on Monday whether the settlement would affect a class-action lawsuit Mr. Diarra’s lawyers had brought against FIFA, stemming from a European case in Luxembourg.<\/p>\n

Diarra’s lawyers at the Belgian company DuPont Hissel have been contacted for comment.<\/p>\n

Diarra and FIFA have been in a legal dispute since his relationship with former club Lokomotiv Moscow broke down in 2014.<\/p>\n

FIFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled in favor of the Russian club, saying Diarra had terminated his contract without just cause. That means Diarra and any club that wants to sign him will have to pay 10.5 million euros (approximately $12.1 million).<\/p>\n

Diarra challenged the global transfer market rules administered by FIFA in a lawsuit brought to the European Court of Justice. There, the judge said some FIFA rules breached EU competition law and the free movement of players. <\/p>\n
