Manchester United are said to have to pay \u00a380m to sign Matheus Fernandes from West Ham. The Red Devils head into the summer transfer window keen to add to their midfield options.<\/p>\n

Atalanta’s Ederson is set to head to Old Trafford, with a deal between the two clubs seemingly close. As well as the Brazilian, United have a number of other options, including West Ham star Fernandes.<\/p>\n

The Hammers need to raise between \u00a3100m and \u00a3150m in player sales this summer after their relegation to the Championship was confirmed on the final day of the campaign. Fernandes is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable assets and the Londoners are determined not to let the Portuguese go easily.<\/p>\n

According to reports, West Ham value the 21-year-old at around \u00a380 million. They want to keep him at the club, but they’ll likely be willing to trade him at that price.<\/p>\n

Fernandes has a big future ahead of him, whether he joins West Ham or not. Internally, he is thought to have the potential to become one of the best players in the world in the coming years.<\/p>\n

Fernandes was signed from Southampton last summer for \u00a338m but failed to help West Ham avoid relegation. He has four years left on his contract at the London Stadium.<\/p>\n

Apart from their interest in Fernandes, United bosses have already highlighted their plans for the summer period. “I think the template of what we did last summer will be replicated. It’s always going to be a window and you don’t know how you’re going to get out of it, but you have to be well prepared,” CEO Omar Berada said.<\/p>\n

“You have to have a clear plan. You have to know exactly which positions you want to strengthen, and you have to be prepared for any contingencies. There may be exits that we don’t expect. There may be opportunities in the market that did not exist at the beginning of the window.”<\/p>\n

He also reaffirmed that United will not be forced to overpay by rival clubs or player agents. Berrada added: “We really have to be disciplined, but it’s easy.<\/p>\n

“We have a plan. We know what we can invest in, so we have to stick to it. In some cases, we may decide to make an investment knowing that it’s the right thing to do not just for the next two or three years, but for the next 10 years as well.”<\/p>\n

“But obviously we need to stay very focused on what we’re trying to achieve. It’s very important that we don’t let the market or the agents dictate what we should do.”<\/p>\n
