Alan Shearer has admitted he is “surprised” that Newcastle were able to secure \u00a370m from Barcelona for Anthony Gordon. The England forward is ready to join Bar\u00e7a after their victory over Bayern Munich.<\/p>\n
Mirror Football understands that Barca are \u00a310m more expensive than Bayern and will pay a \u00a370m transfer fee for Gordon, who is under contract until 2031. His move puts Marcus Rashford’s future in Catalonia in doubt, with no agreement in place to turn his loan from Manchester United into a permanent \u00a326m transfer.<\/p>\n
Gordon has scored 17 goals and provided five assists in 46 games this season, particularly in the Champions League. Overall, he has made 152 appearances for Newcastle since arriving from Everton for \u00a345m in 2022, scoring 39 goals and providing 28 assists.<\/p>\n
Gordon’s contract runs until June 2030, so Newcastle could demand \u00a370m. Despite this, club legend Shearer expressed surprise that Bar\u00e7a could afford to spend such a large amount of money, given that they are over \u00a32bn in debt and are in talks with United over Rashford’s transfer fee.<\/p>\n

Shearer told Betfair: “I think Newcastle were hurt by the[Alexander]Isak situation and they can’t ever be in that situation again.” \u201cSo obviously Anthony Gordon wants to leave, so I think the thinking on Newcastle’s side is, if that’s the case, we’ll do everything we can for him and then we’ll come up with a plan and make sure we don’t end up in that situation again.<\/p>\n
“I think there’s a part of it…You never want to get bitten twice like last summer. I don’t know if they could have gotten more for him. I think now is the time for them to come up with a plan.”<\/p>\n
“And if that’s the case and it suits Newcastle, if it’s the right deal and the right time, then yes, that’s fine. If it’s \u00a370m or whatever it is, they’ve got a healthy return on him.<\/p>\n

“I know he’s been scoring mainly in the Champions League this season. He’s scored six goals in the league, three of them penalties. But there’s definitely talent there, but if you have talent that’s not completely committed to it, you have to let them go and that’s what they’ve done.”<\/p>\n
