MILAN (AP) \u2014 AC Milan fired coach Massimiliano Allegri and CEO Giorgio Furlani on Monday after what was deemed a “clear failure” of the season.<\/p>\n
The team’s American owners, the Redbirds, cleaned house a day after Milan overcame a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at home to fellow Cagliari, missing out on Champions League qualification by one point. The Rossoneri were booed off the field by their own fans.<\/p>\n

The Redbirds retained only special advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic.<\/p>\n
Allegri returned to Milan last year with the task of taking the Rossoneri back to the Champions League after the team finished eighth in Serie A last season. Coach Allegri oversaw 42 games, with a record of 22 wins, 10 draws, and 10 losses.<\/p>\n
Redbirds managing partner Jerry Cardinale is now expected to work closely with Ibrahimovic on the club’s restructuring, including the selection of a coach, CEO and sporting director.<\/p>\n
“Further announcements regarding the following appointments will be made in due course, with the aim of being well-prepared for next season,” the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
