BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – Versatile goal scorer Robert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona at the end of the season, the Spanish club announced Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Polish striker, who turns 38 in August, was widely expected to move on ahead of his contract expiring.<\/p>\n

lewandowski join barcelona<\/span> He moved from Bayern in 2022 for a fee of 45 million euros (approximately $52 million), but at the time his new club was in deep financial trouble and was still reeling from the departure of Lionel Messi. Lewandowski was seen as a key figure in the rebuild.<\/p>\n

He went on to help Barcelona win three Spanish league titles in four seasons. Including this campaign<\/span>He won the Copa del Rey once and scored an astonishing 119 goals in 191 games.<\/p>\n

“After four years full of challenges and hard work, it’s time to take the next step. I leave feeling mission accomplished,” Lewandowski wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Lewandowski did not discuss the future of his career in his message. He has been linked with a move to Juventus or a league outside of Europe.<\/p>\n

Lewandowski lost his status as Barcelona manager Hansi Flick’s undisputed first-choice striker this season, as the former Bayern manager often preferred the speed and energy of young Ferran Torres.<\/p>\n

Lamine Yamal, who played on Lewandowski’s right flank, praised his attacking partner.<\/p>\n

“Thank you for everything, your goals, your leadership, and for believing in me from day one,” Yamal wrote on Instagram. “I learned a lot from you on and off the pitch. You will forever be a legend.”<\/p>\n

Barcelona have two games left this season. They will face Real Betis on Sunday and visit Valencia on May 23rd.<\/p>\n
