MILAN (AP) \u2014 With three days left until the start of Serie A’s penultimate round of matches, half of the teams don’t know when their games will take place.<\/p>\n
The Rome derby is at the heart of the matter, as it was originally scheduled to kick off at 12:30pm (local time) on Sunday, along with four other games involving teams competing for Champions League qualification.<\/p>\n
That’s because the battle for the final three spots in the Champions League has been delayed. Inter Milan are the new champions<\/span> – It’s so tight that all matches featuring Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Roma and Como must be played at the same time to ensure fairness.<\/p>\nHowever, the Italian Open men’s singles tennis final was scheduled for 5pm at Rome’s Foro Italico, in the same complex as the Stadio Olimpico, and local authorities ordered the derby to be moved to Monday night due to public safety concerns.<\/p>\n
Due to the potential for disruption to the thousands of fans of the 10 participating teams, Lega Serie A has proposed an alternative plan. It was to kick off at 12pm and delay the start of the tennis to 5:30pm.<\/p>\n
This was rejected by the authorities in Rome, so the Italian league’s governing body lodged a formal appeal with the Regional Administrative Court (TAR) on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
