DORTMUND, Germany (AP) – Eintracht Frankfurt’s hopes of winning European football next season suffered a potentially fatal blow on Friday when they gave up an early lead and lost 3-2 to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.<\/p>\n
Young striker Can Uzun silenced the home crowd by putting the visitors ahead with less than two minutes left after some excellent work inside the penalty area from Mahmoud Dahoud.<\/p>\n
However, Dortmund scored twice before halftime to take the lead.<\/p>\n
Serou Guirassi leveled the score in the 42nd minute with a superb shot from a cross from Julian Ryerson, and Nico Schlotterbeck put Dortmund ahead in first-half stoppage time.<\/p>\n
Samuele Inacio scored his first goal for the club with a volley from a cross from Max Baier, making it 3-1.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Burkhardt pulled one back for Frankfurt with three minutes remaining, but it was too late.<\/p>\n
With Bayern Munich already crowned champions and Dortmund securing one of the four guaranteed Champions League spots, the home side had little room to fight.<\/p>\n
However, this victory secured them second place in the Bundesliga, putting them out of reach of Leipzig.<\/p>\n
However, the result was painful for Frankfurt, who were one of three teams with a chance of seventh place and one spot in the Conference League playoffs.<\/p>\n
This loss gives momentum to Freiburg, who could seal seventh place with a win against Hamburg on Sunday.<\/p>\n
After playing more matches, Freiburg now has 44 points and Eintracht has 43 points.<\/p>\n
