Bianca St. Georges scored in stoppage time and the Boston Legacy defeated Denver Summit 3-2 on Sunday for the expansion club’s first regular-season win. <\/p>\n
In other National Women’s Soccer League games, the Chicago Stars lost 2-0 to the visiting Portland Thorns. <\/p>\n
Natasha Flint found Yazmeen Ryan, who dribbled a few times and fired a shot from outside the box past Casey Murphy to give Summit a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. <\/p>\n
Nichelle Prince scored the tying goal for Legacy in the 44th minute. Summitt regained the lead in the 77th inning with a precise left-foot strike from Flint that broke the deadlock. <\/p>\n
Aissata Traore, who came on as a substitute in the second half, scored in the 90th minute to tie the score again at 2-2. Traore’s header found its way to Saint-Georges, who won the game in stoppage time, completing a comeback for Legacy (1 win, 5 losses, 1 draw).<\/p>\n
Summit (1-3-3) suffered its second straight loss, extending its losing streak to four games.<\/p>\n
This was the first matchup between the latest NWSL expansion teams.<\/p>\n
Thorns remain on the table<\/h2>\n
Olivia Moultrie became the youngest player in NWSL history to play in 100 NWSL games, contributing to Portland’s victory with a goal and an assist. <\/p>\n
Moultrie took the lead in the 17th minute with an assist from Pietra Trudin. Both players have contributed to six goals this season.<\/p>\n
After a second half in which the Chicago Stars (2-6-0) had more possession, more shots and more shots on goal, it was the Thorns who made the breakthrough. In the 89th minute, Moultrie sent a pinpoint pass from distance that allowed second-half substitute Raelyn Turner to beat goalkeeper Alyssa Neher and slot the ball into an empty net. <\/p>\n
Mackenzie Arnold made four saves for her third clean sheet of the season and fifth overall for Portland (6-1-1), which moves into first place in the league standings. <\/p>\n
