Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is having an excellent season, but there is some uncertainty over his future at the club heading into the summer transfer window<\/h2>\n

Manchester United are hoping their dramatic turnaround since Michael Carrick took over as manager will be enough to persuade Bruno Fernandes to sign him to a new contract. Fernandes has had an excellent season at United, but there is some uncertainty over his future heading into a crucial transfer window for the club.<\/p>\n
The United captain has eight goals and 19 assists in 31 Premier League appearances this season, leaving him two assists away from breaking the league record held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. The player’s contract with United runs until June 2027, with the club having the option to extend his contract for a further 12 months.<\/p>\n
The 31-year-old has rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, but another threat looms, with the Telegraph reporting that his contract has a \u20ac65m (about \u00a356.3m) release clause that can be triggered until mid-July.<\/p>\n
United are third in the Premier League with a 2-1 win at Brentford on Monday, their ninth in 13 games under Carrick. A return to the Champions League next season is on the cards, but this is an important step for the club and the club’s desire to keep Fernandes.<\/p>\n

As Mirror Football exclusively reported last month, the two main factors that will determine Fernandes’ future are United winning Champions League football and Carrick being appointed full-time manager. United bosses are waiting until the end of the season to see if the former midfielder will replace Ruben Amorim permanently, but he is in pole position and there are no other candidates.<\/p>\n
Fernandes is very ambitious and will not intervene in the club’s transfer talks this summer, but he wants to ensure the team is on an upward trajectory. United bosses are prepared to hand Casemiro a new contract worth \u00a3400,000 a week, even as they try to lure Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson and Real Madrid’s Aur\u00e9lien Cioameny to replace Casemiro.<\/p>\n
Fernandes’ explanation of why he rejected a big-money move to Saudi Arabia reflects his feelings towards United and could hint at his thoughts this summer.<\/p>\n

“I stayed because I thought I still had something to give back to the club,” he told Wayne Rooney on his podcast last week. \u201cObviously, there was a lot going on, the situation in Saudi Arabia, the money thing, etc. The good thing about my family is that my wife is pretty down-to-earth, like me.<\/p>\n
“We know very well that we don’t want to be the richest people in the world. We just want them to achieve the dreams they had, have a good life with their children, and be as successful as possible.”<\/p>\n
“My wife’s words were, ‘Did you achieve your dreams? Did you achieve everything you wanted?’ And that little thing she said told me that she was on the same page as me. Let’s keep trying and see where this takes me.”<\/p>\n
United are desperate to retain their influential captain, who scored 106 goals and provided 106 assists in 323 appearances for the club, and are hoping the lure of Champions League football, perhaps under Carrick, will clinch a deal.<\/p>\n
