Manchester United are reluctant to become involved in a bidding war with Manchester City for Nottingham Forest star Elliott Anderson. Anderson, 23, is a target for both Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n
The England international has had a fantastic season with Forest, who signed him from his boyhood club Newcastle for \u00a335m two years ago. Forest are now said to be offering a whopping \u00a3120m for Anderson, a figure United have scoffed at.<\/p>\n
According to a report by ESPN, Old Trafford bosses believe his asking price has been significantly inflated and that the initial bid will be less than that. However, United would be prepared to walk away if City’s interest turns into a bidding war.<\/p>\n
The report adds that United are hoping to cover the cost of signing a top midfielder with the funds raised from his departure. The Red Devils have put Andre Onana, Manuel Ugarte, Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee on the market, but are also preparing to part ways with expiring trio Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malasia.<\/p>\n

With Ugarte likely to follow Casemiro, United are set to sign two midfielders, a left winger and a defender in what looks to be a busy summer. Having secured a starting position for Thomas Tuchel’s Three Lions, Anderson’s value could further increase during the World Cup.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old is under contract at Forest until 2029 but is thought to be reluctant to drop to the Championship. Forest are five points above the relegation zone but are not out of the woods yet.<\/p>\n
Anderson has remained tight-lipped about his future, saying during his international break in March: “Obviously there’s the World Cup this summer so all my eyes are on that and playing for England. Of course I’m wearing the badge too so that’s what I’m thinking about right now.”<\/p>\n

United have alternatives to Anderson, including Premier League stars Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleva and Sandro Tonali. Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Choameny has also emerged as a target in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Whoever makes the deal will have to give credit to Koby Mainoo, as the academy graduate has agreed a new five-year deal with United and is preparing to announce it.<\/p>\n
