Chelsea are looking for a new manager following the sacking of Liam Rosenior, with former player Cesc Fabregas, who started his coaching career at Como in Italy, emerging as an option.<\/h2>\n

Como president Mirwan Swarso has given the green light to Cesc Fabregas to become Chelsea’s next manager. Fabregas, 38, is one of the candidates to replace Liam Rosenior, who was sacked on Wednesday after just three months in the job after suffering five consecutive Premier League defeats.<\/p>\n
The Blues have appointed Callum McFarlane on an interim basis until the end of the season, with the plan to take over permanently in the summer. If Chelsea decide to offer Fabregas the job, Como will not stand in their way.<\/p>\n
“If it makes him happy, that’s him,” Swarso told City AM. “He would want his employees to stay with him as long as possible, but at the end of the day we don’t belong to him and he is free to go to Chelsea if he wants.”<\/p>\n
Como also admitted that Fabregas could maintain his stock in the Italian side even if he leaves. The Spaniard holds a minority stake in Como along with Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, and the club is primarily owned by Indonesian billionaires.<\/p>\n

Swarso said structures were in place for him to remain an interested party “as long as Fabregas does not leave the competition to an Italian club”. “Business is business, ideas are ideas,” he added. “We have to look at things in a rational way, right? It’s common sense.”<\/p>\n
Fabregas, who spent four-and-a-half years at Chelsea as a player, was offered the Como job shortly after promotion to Serie A in 2024. After the 38-year-old ended his active career at the club, he was appointed assistant coach, including caretaker.<\/p>\n

Como finished in the top half of last season, finishing fifth in Serie A and narrowly losing out in this week’s Coppa Italia final, but Fabregas’ achievements are attracting attention. The former midfielder has recently been linked with becoming Italy’s new manager, but Fabregas is currently focused on the club’s game.<\/p>\n
“Maybe someday it will happen, but for now I’m playing too much of a role as a coach,” he told Marca. “When I say I’m a coach, I have to be on the pitch every day with the players and the young people and prepare them for the game.<\/p>\n
“Working for the national team would be a bit boring for me now. In the future, when I’m a little older, who knows?”<\/p>\n
