Manchester United are looking to strengthen their backline in preparation for their return to the Champions League, and are eyeing Tottenham’s Mickey van de Ven.<\/p>\n
The Red Devils are set to compete with Europe’s elite following their mid-season resurgence, but know that will put added pressure on their resources. Improving the quality of their midfield remains a priority, but their defensive line is made up of young players and players who are struggling with fitness.<\/p>\n
As a result, The Athletic reports that Tottenham are considering signing the centre-half, although Liverpool have also been interested in signing him in the past. The Dutchman’s stock remains high despite the team’s well-documented struggles, which could end in relegation.<\/p>\n
Even if Tottenham remain in the Premier League, Van de Ven will have no shortage of suitors. His speed is a huge asset and has been used to get United past him in the past, but the north Londoners have tied him up until 2029.<\/p>\n

This means signing the 25-year-old won’t come cheap and his move could depend on how much cash United can raise from player sales, with a number of players expected to leave.<\/p>\n
Liverpool have been linked with interest in the past, but with Ibrahima Konate set to sign a new contract, their desire and need to strengthen their central defense may have eased. He has already signed Jeremy Jaquet and is set to continue playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.<\/p>\n
Old Trafford officials are confident that Lenny Yolo and Aiden Haven can form a great partnership in the coming years. Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Mart\u00ednez have both been plagued by injuries, meaning United will play significantly more games next season.<\/p>\n

The club’s big move this summer will be in central midfield, with significant investment planned there. Last summer’s signings to address challenges in the final third were a success and we hope recruitment decisions will be made again with a focus on bringing in players with proven Premier League credentials.<\/p>\n
As a result, Elliott Anderson is high on the wish list, but Nottingham Forest’s midfield signing could cost around \u00a3100m. Brighton’s Carlos Baleva is also a name United want to replace the departing Casemiro, as is Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton. Real Madrid’s Aur\u00e9lien Choameny is also on the shortlist.<\/p>\n
