Before Liam Rosenior was officially announced as Chelsea’s head coach, his face and voice had already been widely circulated on social media. Clips from Strasbourg’s time as manager, featuring the now infamous phrase: “In English we have the word ‘management’, but if you separate the two words ‘man’ and ‘age’, you get an aging man”, ensuring the role was always an uphill battle.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

From the beginning, neutral supporters across the country were unable to take him seriously. Chelsea fans, whose club was at the center of ridicule, likewise found it difficult to support him. What followed was a head coach who many felt talked too much, and his words didn’t match his performance on the pitch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Bruco worked extensively with Rosenior during his time at Strasbourg and the sporting directors are familiar with every aspect of the 41-year-old’s methods at the Stade de Mainau, where he performed admirably. A lot has changed at Stamford Bridge since Blueko bought the club in May 2022, with the ownership group looking to return the Blues to the glory days they enjoyed under Roman Abramovich.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

They believed Rosenior was the person who could spearhead their ambitious vision. An astute up-and-coming British coach full of personality and charisma, albeit at times unconventional in his public presentations. Although Mr. Rosenior never dreamed that his appointment would be surrounded by prejudice – none of which caught him by surprise, he insisted – it is proving increasingly difficult for people to view him with real credibility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Importantly, BlueCo always took him seriously. According to Football London, there was an eventual realization that the role may have been too early for the young manager.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

However, it wasn’t always like that, and Rosenior got off to a really promising start. With seven wins from their opening nine games in all competitions, with only two losses coming against mighty Arsenal, people were debating Rosenior for good reason.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At least briefly. Then everything started to unravel. A trip to Paris in early to mid-March was where everything seemed to change for Rosenior. In many ways the beginning of the end.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

There is no shame in losing to the European champions, who are probably the best team on the planet right now. However, the circumstances surrounding that defeat lead to a more critical assessment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Chelsea were level with Luis Enrique’s PSG team for at least 74 minutes in the French capital. The score was 2-2 at the Parc des Princes, with Vicinha putting PSG ahead after a sloppy mistake by goalkeeper Philipp Jorgensen. Then it became four, then it became five. In the space of 20 minutes, Chelsea’s Champions League hopes were extinguished.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I felt these were all completely preventable. Robert Sanchez was outstanding for Chelsea in the first half of this season (and the second half of last season). Sanchez feels like he has turned a corner after experiencing more lows than highs during his stay at Stamford Bridge. The Spanish goalkeeper made a small mistake in Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal on March 1 and found himself on the bench for the visit of Aston Villa a few days later. Jorgensen put in a great performance that day, but it proved costly for Chelsea a week later against France.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Sacking Sanchez and undermining his confidence seemed like a major blunder at the time. It’s still going on almost two months later. An unnecessary blow to his confidence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Despite the loss in Paris, Rosenior remained positive. He had little choice. Newcastle United were due to play at Stamford Bridge just three days later. The 1-0 loss to the Magpies threatened to end an unwanted losing streak for Chelsea, especially with PSG traveling to west London for the second leg shortly after.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Rather predictably, it ended in a convincing victory for PSG, with supporters starting to turn against the former Chelsea head coach. Then came Enzo Fernandes’ bombshell statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After flirting with a move to Real Madrid, Rossenyol, in conjunction with the club’s sports coaching team, took a stand against Fernandes for his public comments and chose to suspend him. They also chose not to suspend Mark Cucurella, who also hinted at leaving Stamford Bridge during an interview. Fernandes was absent from the FA Cup win against Port Vale and the Premier League defeat against Manchester City. Rossenyol faced considerable criticism for such a significant call-up, and his key player in Fernandes was at risk of further marginalization. Notably, this has resulted in a change in the club’s stance on the Argentine midfielder, who is no longer seen as the ‘untouchable’ figure he once was with regard to his possible departure in the summer transfer window.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Many of these players were surprised and disappointed by Enzo Maresca’s departure in January. Winning in the locker room is never easy. This is especially true if you haven’t moved on from your previous manager.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

There is a remarkable statistic going around right now. Chelsea have won every Premier League game this season. Is it a lack of effort, or is it related to the fatigue of the players who have been playing patiently for two consecutive seasons? Rosenior hinted at the former in his final press conference as Chelsea head coach.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Rosenior joined midway through the season, which is always a difficult situation for any head coach, but he wasn’t willing to make excuses. Football London, the Express’ sister title in the capital, told him directly at his first press conference in Cobham: “It’s impossible here (to be evaluated at the end of the summer). It’s impossible for me to be evaluated next season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“It’s not ideal. Every coach would love to come in the summer and sit in the sun for six weeks and work out their philosophy and learn about the players. But that’s not the reality of football.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The inability to implement these goals, which he outlined in January, was a major hurdle for Rosenior. He had precious little time to work with the team on the training pitch. But in his final weeks as Chelsea manager, he was given more opportunities to put his ideas into practice, but none of them got through to the players. It was either that or he lost the dressing room. At his final press conference in Brighton, he didn’t want to talk about it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Although the majority of Chelsea supporters want Rosenior to be sacked, most believe that Bruco is the main culprit behind the club’s decline. A huge protest took place ahead of Rosenior’s final home match as manager, with hundreds of fans marching to Stamford Bridge to express their dissatisfaction with the way Bruko is running the club.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

So far, the ownership group, led by co-owner Behadad Egbali, has been unable to show any signs of a sustainable long-term model. Last season, Chelsea won two major accolades. These include the revamped inaugural FIFA Club World Cup, which represents real progress for BlueCo. However, in this campaign, those gains have been significantly reversed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Rosenior’s tenure at Chelsea came to an end on Wednesday when key members of the club’s sporting leadership team held crisis talks about his future. Although the players were given time off (as is standard practice depending on results), Chelsea’s leadership ultimately decided to part ways with Rosenior. It’s hard to believe that Egbali made the following comment last week: “With Liam, I had the opportunity to work with him every day for 18 months, so I knew what I was getting.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We think he has all the qualities to be successful here. He’s made a great start. The last five or six games have been tough, but I don’t think he’s as good as Liam. Of course results are important, but we believe he can be successful in the long term.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

With five consecutive defeats, no goals scored, and fans turning against him at games, Chelsea decided to part ways with Rosenior four days before the FA Cup semi-final. It’s always a big decision, and there’s never a better time to make it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Blues bosses will be hoping the changes will reinvigorate their players ahead of their trip to Wembley for a place in a major final.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This doesn’t paint BlueCo in a favorable light. Firing a young head coach just three and a half months into a six-and-a-half year contract is not a good reflection. Executives within the consortium have acknowledged that and accepted accountability for some bad decisions that have been made, and this must be one of them, and will now bide their time as to Mr. Rosenior’s replacement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

At the time of writing, it is understood that there are no active negotiations with a potential successor. The club undertakes a careful and considered process to find a coach who matches its long-term ambitions and vision. In the meantime, Callum MacFarlane will take over on an interim basis. once again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

It’s hard not to feel a certain amount of sympathy for Rosenior. From the moment he walked through the door, he was exposed to unwarranted ridicule and ridicule. Changing the national perception surrounding him always seemed like a monumental task.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Although he ultimately fell short in that regard, there is no doubt that he has an exciting career ahead of him as a manager. Throughout his short tenure at Chelsea, Rosenior consistently maintained that he enjoyed the pressure and responsibility that came with the role, no matter how difficult the situation became.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

But in the end, it turned out to be too much. It remains to be seen whether Rosenior will look back on the past few months with fondness. At least one silver lining for Rosenior is that he didn’t end up buying a house.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
