Liverpool suffered a major blow in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain when Hugo Ekitike suffered a serious injury.<\/h2>\n

Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike had to be carried away on a stretcher during the first half of Tuesday night’s game against Paris Saint-Germain.<\/p>\n
The 23-year-old France international collapsed with what appeared to be a serious injury 30 minutes ago, with no one around. A significant absence would be a huge blow to both Liverpool and Ekitike, who is likely to represent his country at the World Cup if he is eligible.<\/p>\n
Alan Shearer, commentating on the match on Amazon Prime, said: “Ekitike tried to control the ball but it looks like he slipped. He looks hurt.”<\/p>\n
“They say he has to come down. It doesn’t look good at all.”<\/p>\n

Stephen Warnock felt it appeared to be pointing at his Achilles heel after the striker went down. “There was no one around Hugo Ekitike but he’s got an ankle injury. He’s facing his Achilles tendon and that’s a big concern,” the former Liverpool defender said on BBC Radio 5 Live.<\/p>\n
“He got up and just fell to the floor. Marquinhos was holding his hand and he was in pain.”<\/p>\n
Liverpool’s other big-money signing, striker Alexander Isak, has been out since December with a broken foot and only returned for last week’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against PSG.<\/p>\n

Ekitike was replaced by Mohamed Salah, who is preparing to leave the club this summer in what could be his last appearance for Liverpool in Europe.<\/p>\n
Arne Slott’s side went into the game at Anfield needing to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the first leg, but PSG were unfortunately unable to seal another victory. The Reds have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions and have no chance of retaining the Premier League title. In other words, if they lose in the second match, their last chance to win a silver medal this season will disappear.<\/p>\n
Ekitike, who joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, started his career with PSG, scoring four goals in 33 appearances for the French giants.<\/p>\n
