1-0 defeat at Sunderland on Sunday after being pushed by Brian Brobbey, and was in tears as he was substituted after a lengthy on-field treatment period.<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrap-anywhere typo-tk-rs-body-md text-content-block-default-text-fill-01\" data-testid=\"body-paragraph\">Romero is reported to be out for up to eight weeks after sustaining a partial tear of his medial cruciate ligament, meaning he will join the relegation battle as Roberto De Zerbi&#8217;s Spurs&#8217; situation continues to deteriorate.<\/div>\n<p>Additionally, Romero will be in a race against time to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with his Argentina side hoping to defend the title they won in 2022.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wrap-anywhere typo-tk-rs-body-md text-content-block-default-text-fill-01\" data-testid=\"body-paragraph\">West Ham United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday, sending Spurs back into the relegation zone and leapfrogging the North London side out of the relegation zone.<\/div>\n<p>This is the first time Spurs have finished in the bottom three of the season, although they are yet to win the 2026 Premier League.<\/p>\n<figure data-testid=\"body-infographic\" class=\"gap-tk-rs-padding-inv-xs flex flex-col\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.eurosport.com\/2026\/04\/13\/image-e08afe25-e86f-4101-974c-5624a7edbe29.jpeg\" alt=\"Romero suffers knee injury against Sunderland\" data-testid=\"body-infographic-img\" class=\"rounded-tk-rs-sm self-start\"\/><figcaption class=\"body-thumbnail-caption\" data-testid=\"body-infographic-caption\">\n<p class=\"typo-tk-caption-xs\">Romero suffers knee injury against Sunderland<\/p>\n<p class=\"typo-tk-caption-xs\">Image credit: Getty Images<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>De Zerbi took charge in the first game against Sunderland, but a second-half goal from Nordi Mukiele meant Spurs came within two points of suffering their 16th league defeat of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Spurs have had to deal with a huge number of injuries this season, with James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Mohamed Kudus, Rodrygo Bentancur, Dominic Solanke and Yves Bissouma all missing large portions of the season.<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t help them as they faced the serious prospect of being relegated from England&#8217;s top flight for the first time in their history and for the first time since Keith Burkinshaw&#8217;s 1976-77 season.<\/p>\n<p>Former Brighton &#038;
