It may not be as glorious a trophy as the FA Cup, which Jack Wilshere lifted twice with Arsenal at this famous ground.<\/p>\n
And the spoils won’t be as grand as the last time Luton Town won under the arches at Wembley in 2023.<\/p>\n
But this 3-1 victory over Stockport County in a heated Virtu Trophy final feels like a shocking moment for both club and manager.<\/p>\n
Luton are only one place better off than they were before Wilshere, but the former Arsenal and England midfielder, 34, is starting to revitalize a club struggling with successive relegations after reaching the Premier League.<\/p>\n
With less than six months to go until his appointment date, Wilshere has lifted Luton to silverware. The onus is on the Hatters and their promising young head coach to use their victory at Wembley as a catalyst to become only the ninth team in history to achieve a cup and promotion double.<\/p>\n

For Wilshere, winning his first managerial honor just a few months into his maiden role will be intriguing for someone who had a highly promising career that was brutally cut short by injury – especially given the ups and downs he encountered during his time at Kenilworth Road.<\/p>\n
It didn’t start out as a dream for Luton. Trailing 3-1, over 10,000 Stockport County fans were the first to celebrate as Adama Sidibe, who joined from St Johnstone in January, stepped up to score. And he broke the deadlock with a smart finish onto the hallowed Wembley turf, beating Luton’s veteran keeper James Shea.<\/p>\n
There were warning signs for Luton. Just 90 seconds earlier, the pacey and dangerous Sidibe had been played in behind and only Hakim Odofin’s perfectly timed block prevented Wilshere’s team from breaking through.<\/p>\n
But they reacted like a team that had tasted defeat just once in 11 games before their latest pilgrimage to the famous Wembley Arch.<\/p>\n

Stockport’s Ethan Pye headed a defiant cross towards Naki Wells, who was lurking just yards from goal, against his own post. But there was no one to intervene as Emilio Lawrence was picked out on the left side of the penalty area with an incisive pass and the Manchester City loanee slotted precisely through the legs of Stockport’s Corey Addai.<\/p>\n
Parity rejuvenated Wilshere, his men and the wall of orange behind Shea’s goal. And just before half-time, the two sides clashed again when Wells deftly picked his position after the ball was lofted in from Cal Naismith inside Stockport’s penalty area.<\/p>\n
Josh Stokes sent Stockport agonizingly close to scoring an elusive equaliser, firing a shot millimeters beyond the far post in the 72nd minute. Stokes had time to go close with just a few minutes remaining, but his close-range header from a sharp free-kick crashed over the crossbar.<\/p>\n
But it was Luton and Wilshere’s day, with Wells sparking further jubilation by scoring his second goal in stoppage time.<\/p>\n

His strike prompted the manager, who had repeatedly wandered over the only blade of grass he had not covered on this technical area, to embrace the bench in glee and bask in the glory of his first landmark victory as manager.<\/p>\n
Wilshere’s big moment will be remembered as another in what has been a great season for the young English manager in the EFL, with Frank Lampard on the brink of leading Coventry City to promotion to the Premier League. In Luton’s division, the impressive Michael Skbara defied expectations by masterminding Lincoln City’s stunning promotion.<\/p>\n
The hope for Luton and Wilshire is that there are many more days like this ahead.<\/p>\n
