LONDON (AP) \u2014 Roberto De Zerbi wants to keep Tottenham simple.<\/p>\n

De Zerbi was given a five-year contract, but there was no release clause in case of relegation, and his immediate goal was to remain in the Premier League. Tottenham are now one point above the drop zone with seven games remaining.<\/p>\n
De Zerbi previously worked as manager of Brighton in the Premier League. Recently in Marseille<\/span>He left the club in February after disagreements with the French club’s leadership.<\/p>\nTottenham’s first test under their new manager will be at Sunderland on Sunday. He doesn’t worry too much about implementing his style of play.<\/p>\n
“What I want to do and what I want to achieve immediately is character, the right spirit, the right courage to play and attack, because the DNA of this club, this team, is to find goals and score,” he said.<\/p>\n
After a week of working with the players, he said he was “certainly more positive” about staying in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
Reigning Europa League champions Spurs have sacked Igor Tudor after a 44-day interim spell that worsened Tottenham’s plight. Tudor was brought in after Thomas Frank only lived eight months.<\/span> At work.<\/p>\nDe Zerbi paid tribute to them on Friday.<\/p>\n
“I’m not better than Thomas Frank or Igor Tudor, because I think they’re very good coaches,” he said. <\/p>\n
“I’m trying to bring my style, myself, character, personality and passion to help the players. First of all, they have a lot of qualities, so it’s about showing their qualities, and then achieving the goal, because the most important thing right now is the goal.”<\/p>\n
