Andy Robertson has released an emotional statement after it was confirmed the Scotland international will leave Liverpool at the end of this season after nine years at Anfield.<\/h2>\n

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson admitted he felt better after news of his departure was revealed. The Scotland international will leave the Reds at the end of this season after nine trophy-winning years on Merseyside.<\/p>\n
But the full-back, who was signed for \u00a38m from then-relegated Hull City, said he would “never accept” that he was an Anfield legend. The 32-year-old will leave as a free agent at the end of the season when his contract expires.<\/p>\n
Robertson, who won two Premier League, Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup titles with Merseyside, found his role within the Reds’ first team diminished following the arrival of Milos Kerkes last summer. The left-back will lead Scotland to their first World Cup appearance since 1998, when Steve Clarke’s side competed in the tournament in Canada, Mexico and the United States.<\/p>\n
He told Liverpool’s official website: “I think I’ve felt better since we’ve been open. Certainly the hardest thing over the last few weeks and months is that some of the people close to me at the training ground don’t know. And more importantly, the fans.”<\/p>\n

“The closer we get to the game, the more and more questions I get asked. I’ve always said the fans are the most important people at this club and I think it’s time to tell them what’s going on and obviously this year is going to be my last.”<\/p>\n
“But I think it’s better for me to go out because I can focus completely on the team from now until the end of the season. I think it’s important to do that and I’ve always done that.”<\/p>\n
“But it will be near the end when it’s time to say an emotional farewell and tell the fans and everyone associated with this club what it means to me. I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. I’m just trying to get it out there so I can be open and honest with everyone.”<\/p>\n
He has been a key player for the past nine years after working his way up to earn a place in Jurgen Klopp’s first team. Robertson’s playing time was reduced after another disappointing defense of the Premier League title.<\/p>\n
Robertson attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, but the Scot remained at Anfield. He will join Mohamed Salah in an emotional farewell to Liverpool in May.<\/p>\n
There are hopes that both Salah and Robertson can finish the season in the Champions League, but the club faces the difficult task of overcoming a two-goal deficit against Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg.<\/p>\n
The Tartan Army captain said: “I’ll let other people say whether I’m a Liverpool legend or not. I think you know me well enough so I would never accept that. But from the moment I joined this football club, I wanted to succeed. I wanted to bring trophies back to this football club and help get this football club back to where I believe it belongs.”<\/p>\n

“I’m so proud to have been part of such a great team that made that happen. The club means everything to me. The people within the club mean the world to me. The fans have always been good to me. I’ll always remember my debut against Crystal Palace when I was a nobody – obviously signed from Hull City for just \u00a38m.”<\/p>\n
“I played on my debut and the Kop was already singing my name. It was an unbelievable moment. I won’t be seen again for three months, but I remind Jurgen (Klopp) of this often. “When I got the chance, it made me work hard at that time, and when I got the chance I just wanted to make the people of this club and the supporters proud of the left-backs who perform every week.”<\/p>\n
“They’ve been great to me, they’ve been unbelievable. They’ve always supported me and always been so positive about me. I couldn’t have asked for a better fan base. I couldn’t have asked for better people to push me forward inside the practice field. I’ll look back on those nine years with a big smile on my face. I can get emotional sometimes.”<\/p>\n
“Now is not the time, and it will be difficult to say goodbye to everyone. But it is also the time to do so, and to celebrate the nine years we have all spent together.”<\/p>\n
