Leicester City’s appeal against the six-point penalty awarded to them by an independent panel earlier this season has been rejected, the club have announced.<\/h2>\n

Leicester City have lost their appeal against the six-point penalty imposed in February for breaching financial regulations.<\/p>\n
The Foxes were first accused by the Premier League last year of breaching the league’s profit and sustainability regulations during the 2023-24 season when they were a Championship club. The penalty was decided by an independent committee earlier this year, and Leicester lost six points and fell from 17th to 20th in the table.<\/p>\n
Leicester have since fallen into the relegation zone and are now in danger of just one point with five games in hand, while Portsmouth, the team just above them, have played one less game than Gary Rowett’s side.<\/p>\n
The club had previously launched an appeal after describing the suspension as “unfair”, but it was revealed on Wednesday that it had failed.<\/p>\n

“Now that the matter is over and there are only five games left in the season, everyone at the club is fully focused on shaping the outcome of the season through the games at hand and the results on the pitch,” Leicester said in a statement.<\/p>\n
“We know this is a difficult time and we would like to thank our supporters for their continued support of the team.<\/p>\n
“The responsibility now is to ensure that we approach the remaining games with the focus and intention that the current situation demands.”<\/p>\n
Leicester missed a golden opportunity to escape the relegation zone by failing to beat bottom club Sheffield at Hillsborough on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Foxes were held to a 1-1 draw with the already relegated club, and a frustrated Rowett told BBC Radio Leicester after the game: “We knew it was a game we had to win. Any other result would mean in some ways we’re still in the same position, but it doesn’t matter, it’s about taking the opportunity.”<\/p>\n
“We’ve played three games so far and overall we’ve created so many chances, put so much effort on goal and had so much possession of the ball.<\/p>\n
“I don’t think there was a game where we necessarily had problems structurally or tactically. It’s just that we needed quality in the final moments. We give teams a lead and then we basically keep inviting them to eat into that lead. That means you have to show extra quality to extend your lead.”<\/p>\n
“It’s absolutely ridiculous (to concede early). We’ve warned you that. It means we have to score two goals. The problem is we haven’t scored that many this season.”<\/p>\n
