Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastre pulled out her mobile phone during her post-match interview and played footage of the hair-pulling incident, which was missed by match officials. women’s champions league Match against Arsenal.

Footage shown in a TV interview by Bonpastar showed Arsenal defender Katie McCabe pulling Chelsea forward Alyssa Thompson’s flowing hair as the American international advanced in the final seconds for a goal that would send Wednesday’s match into extra time.

Feeling that McCabe should have been sent off, the French manager protested to Danish referee Frida Klarund from the sideline and was shown a red card. Bonpastar continued to vent his anger.

“I brought my cell phone, but I don’t know if you can see it. It’s probably not normal,” said Bonpastor, who held up the screen and pressed play to show the incident. “But I don’t know if you can see it in this video, but for me this is clearly a red card for the Arsenal player. She’s pulling Alyssa’s hair. So for me, I don’t see why they’re bringing in VAR if they can’t check that situation again.”

Bompastre said Thompson was “crying” after the incident, which happened just after Chelsea scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 1-0. Things continued like this and Arsenal won 3-2 on aggregate.

McCabe said on social media after the game. Post “Just to be clear, I was really reaching for my shirt. I would never want to pull someone’s hair. Hats off to Thompson,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories.

UEFA was still waiting for the match representative’s report on Thursday.

Hair pulling is considered an act of violence and can be punished with a red card. This could lead to a red card, as was the case when German midfielder Katherine Hendrich was spotted by a video assistant referee at last year’s European Women’s Championship. pull ponytail France national team captain Guedge Mbok during a free kick.

In men’s soccer, Paris Saint-Germain midfielder João Neves was sent off for pulling down Marc Cucurella by the hair in the final minute of the game. Everton unsuccessfully appealed to the Football Association that the incident did not amount to violence.
