Breakdown Team has previewed what could be a crucial summer transfer window for the Premier League’s top clubs.<\/div>\n
TNT Sports experts Steven Gerrard, Owen Hargreaves and Ally McCoist sit down with Darren Fletcher to discuss what each team needs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.<\/div>\n
Will Manchester’s rivals compete for Elliott Anderson’s signature? Who will be Liverpool’s ‘replacement’ for Mohamed Salah?<\/div>\n

Will Manchester clubs compete for Anderson?<\/h2>\n
Elliott Anderson’s brilliant campaign at Nottingham Forest has the league’s top clubs on alert heading into the summer season, with several of them in need of a central midfielder.<\/p>\n
He has been linked with Man City, but Hargreaves said he would be “surprised” if the current midfield option ended up moving to Josep Guardiola’s side.<\/p>\n
The former midfielder feels the 23-year-old may be a better fit at Manchester United, given the club’s history of fielding England’s best teams in the center of the park.<\/p>\n
“If you look at the great Liverpool teams and United teams, it’s like they had an English midfield,” he told TNT Sports. “I think they’ve moved away from that idea. I think you have a team plan at United. I would say, ‘We want England’s future midfield.’<\/p>\n

United already have Coby Mainu at their disposal, but Hargreaves has added two further names as potential signings to complement his compatriot.<\/p>\n
“I think we’re going to get Morgan Rogers or Cole Palmer,” he insisted. “Throw the kitchen sink at it. If you have it, you can compete for a while.”<\/p>\n
Gerrard takes a contrasting view, with Casemiro set to leave the club but feels it is only a matter of time before Cole Palmer returns to Manchester with his boyhood club.<\/div>\n
“I would splash out in another area, I would splash out in Casemiro’s place,” he said. \u201cIf (Bruno) Fernandes leaves, you will have Rodgers all day long. <\/p>\n
“I think Rodgers would be my number 10 to replace Fernandes, but I think Palmer has more potential going forward. United probably need Rodgers more.”<\/p>\n

Liverpool are also a club that has been linked with an English midfielder, but with Mohamed Salah set to leave the club, who could replace him?<\/div>\n
The Reds enjoyed a record-breaking summer, spending around \u00a3450m to defend their title.<\/p>\n
It hasn’t gone that way and club legend Gerrard feels there won’t be another “blockbuster” opportunity, but instead something that will help “balance the squad”.<\/p>\n
The former England captain expects a “strong midfield” from his former club, but could also add “merchants who can play outside in one-on-one situations” to counter this season’s “predictable” style of play.<\/p>\n
However, he returned his focus to the midfield and said, “They don’t have players who can put out the fire in the midfield and demonstrate dominance.”<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like them to go out and get a really dominant defensive midfielder who can help protect the back four a little bit more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hargreaves added: “Anderson is built for them. I saw Elliott Anderson there. He creates a lot as a central midfield player. I think he has a bit of bite. He can sit there and do it.”<\/p>\n
Anthony Gordon, Jarrod Bowen, Crisencio Somerville, Bradley Barcola and Jan Diamond have all been mentioned by the breakdown squad as possible wide reinforcements.<\/p>\n
However, former Man United and Bayern Munich midfielder Hargreaves had only one player in mind to replace Salah.<\/p>\n

“You have to be prepared and try and error. For me it’s (Michael) Olise,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I don’t know[if he’s available]but if you’re talking about Olisse on the right side for Liverpool, it’s going to be a box office hit.<\/p>\n
“Honestly, he has something very different about him. He’s very relaxed and he’s really good. You need that to cope with the pressure of playing in a huge football club. It takes a very special person and he could be that guy.”<\/p>\n
Gerrard added: “You can’t replace Salah unless you buy a box-office player. Salah’s replacement has to be a world-class player or a top three or four player, because that’s what he is.”<\/p>\n
Will Man City finally replace Walker?<\/h2>\n
Gerrard thinks so, and believes he has the answer.<\/p>\n
While Matheus Nunez has done a “steady job” in the team, he insists Guardiola has a player who can take his side to the next level, with Hargreaves describing him as a “perfect” fit.<\/p>\n
“You can see they’re going after (Tino) Libramento,” he said. <\/p>\n
“If you think about the job that Kyle Walker has done for seven or eight years, he’s been world class. There’s still a gap for them to replace him in that area.”<\/p>\n
Bernardo Silva’s contract is also expiring and City’s other great player will need a replacement.<\/p>\n
Anderson has already been named as a candidate for City, but is he really the player City need? Or maybe there are other players in front of them already playing in the league?<\/p>\n
“They couldn’t be more different, Elliott and Bernardo,” Mr. Hargreaves said. “That would be a difficult replacement, something like a Pedri type.” <\/p>\n
“I would be surprised if no one comes instead of Guimar\u00e3es. He could do it (in place of Silva) or Casemiro (at Manchester United). He has something, he is a captain, he can score, he can stop people and he can play.” <\/p>\n
“He’s probably at an age where he thinks he can play for Real Madrid or Barcelona, \u200b\u200band he’s probably thinking, ‘I want to test myself against the best players.’<\/p>\n

Arsenal urges signing future ‘star’, Chelsea needs ‘backbone’<\/h2>\n
McCoist feels Arsenal already have one of the best squads in the world, but will “have to take some guys out” to fund their planned summer business.<\/p>\n
Gerrard believes he will “go for a player on the left side” of midfield, but asks: “How can I make that team, that team better?”<\/p>\n
Hargreaves has the answer in the form of the 21-year-old, who plays under former Gunners ace Cesc Fabregas.<\/p>\n
“We have a young player who plays in Como, Nico Pass,” he declared.<\/p>\n
“We are delighted to have acquired (Martin) Odegaard from Madrid. This is a kid we will see at the World Cup. He is a 10 (out of 10).” <\/p>\n
“Mikel (Arteta) will know that. He will be a star. He is young so there may be a price (issue), but if you don’t ask, you don’t get. A player like that could be suitable for Arsenal.”<\/p>\n
Across London, Chelsea are in a similar situation, having spent too much time developing a big team, but the committee feels they are not a team ready to compete for the biggest honours.<\/p>\n
The Blues have prioritized young talent in recent years and McCoist feels that is “the way they should go”, but plans may have changed following the transfer suspension.<\/div>\n
Can we win something with this team, or is it time to add some senior players and a solid backbone?<\/p>\n
“Think about the money they spent,” Mr Hargreaves said. \u201cTheir center halves are academy graduates, (Trevor) Chalobah and (Levi) Cowill. <\/p>\n
“I think it’s good to have academy players in the team, but you’ve spent over \u00a31 billion so you should start building around that. We’ve got two world-class centre-backs and that gives the players the license to attack and play. I don’t think we can win without that.”<\/p>\n
Garred added: “We need the right spine in our team to make up for the match-winners. <\/p>\n
“You’d say (Moises) Caicedo and Enzo Fernandes are enough. Palmer, obviously world class. They have (Pedro) Neto, Estebao and all the options to win games, but are the centre-backs and goalkeepers enough to actually win the big prize?”<\/p>\n
