Tottenham announced on Sunday that they have parted ways with caretaker manager Igor Tudor, as Spurs begin their search for a fourth manager in less than a year.

There is a lot of discussion among fans whether Tottenham’s relegation is a bigger story than Leicester City winning the title in 2016. Relegation would be unthinkable for Tottenham.

It seems impossible to imagine a £1bn world-class stadium hosting Lincoln City in the Championship next season. And that’s clearly why Tottenham’s leaders have decided to roll the dice again and replace them with a new management team.

Ideally, I should have waited until summer. But needs are necessary. Igor Tudor was a disaster from beginning to end. The former Juventus manager was brought in to make an impact, but no one expected it to be negative.

Incredibly, Tottenham are yet to win in the 2026 Premier League, and had West Ham beaten Wolves two days ago, Spurs would be in the bottom three by the time of their next game at Sunderland on April 12. A crisis is approaching.

Tudor managed seven games in the Premier League, but never won a single game. They won one game in the Champions League, drew one against Liverpool and lost five.

They are in serious danger of collapse. Things have only gone one way under the Tudor regime, and only the sympathy announced after Tottenham’s defeat by Nottingham Forest that the former Croatian international defender’s father had died stopped an earlier announcement. What’s strange is that Tudor’s last big job was with Juventus.

It is clear that Spurs’ former co-sporting director Fabio Paratici, who previously worked at Juventus, must have had a say, and questions remain about the current regime’s ability to make its own appointments. Agents and scouts are clearly not impressed with Spurs’ remaining sporting director, Johan Lange, who lacks experience, charisma and a truly noteworthy track record.

After the Tudor reign ended with his ceremonial abdication, he once again scoured the continent in what he believed would be another dangerous appointment. They may contact the fire department to ensure safety and search again in the summer.

Much has been written about Sean Dyche and he will bring experience and stability, but the former Forest and Everton manager is not interested in short-term reinforcements. Dyche won’t be a starter until the end of the season.

They are eyeing former Brighton and Marseille manager Roberto de Zerbi, and Austrian manager Adi Hütter, who recently managed Monaco, is also said to be linked with his appointment. Tottenham already hope to bring in a new manager within the next few days to give him time to work with the players ahead of what looks like a decisive game against Sunderland.

But Spurs fans are right to question whether the next appointment will be better than the last. Ange Postecoglou won the Europa League and was sacked due to trouble. His replacement, Thomas Frank, seemed a good choice, but his style was not well received by fans. But you have to think that if they had stuck to one side or the other, they wouldn’t be in this mess now.

Former chairman Daniel Levy, who was abruptly sacked in September, doesn’t seem to be so bad after all. The Lewis family took on more responsibility, but left football decisions to Lange and CEO Vinay Venkatesham.

After Tottenham’s home defeat to West Ham on January 17th, Frank held up well. There was a feeling that if there had been a proper caretaker in the building, changes would have been made the next day.

Three days later, Tottenham faced Borussia Dortmund. There were some club legends at the game. The club hierarchy gathered several people. If they had lost, there was a feeling that Ledley King, who had worked under Jose Mourinho, might have been asked to manage.

Instead, Tottenham won and Frank continued to limp until losing to Newcastle, where Frank was sacked and given 12 days to find a replacement. As it turned out, their choice was wrong. Tudor arrived and one of the first things he did was organize a team bonding meal. However, even then, the players were arguing across the dinner table.

The team is underperforming and lacks leadership and quality. They certainly didn’t listen to Tudor’s broken English team. The 47-year-old was at a loss for words, but he tried to convey his passion.

His first match was a north London derby against Arsenal. He tried using high pressing tactics in man-to-man, but they failed miserably. Surely it was asking for trouble. They lost 4-1. And it only got worse from there. Tudor’s treatment of the keeper shocked the players, caused unrest in the dressing room and backfired.

Against Atlético Madrid, first-choice Guglielmo Vicario was left out and Antonin Kinski came on as a substitute and had a nightmare and was hooked after just 17 minutes. This pretty much summed up the disastrous reign of the Tudor dynasty.

They can’t make a mistake again. Or, as Mick McCarthy says, it is possible. But unless the new coach can connect with his players and revitalize the toxic atmosphere at home games, they will only go one way.
