The Premier League’s legal case against Manchester City over financial charges is still ongoing. There have been conflicting reports in recent days as to when a decision will be made, with some suggesting the Easter period or summer, while others say there is no update on a potential schedule.<\/p>\n
Depending on the verdict of the case, various penalties have been proposed, with the latest proposal being a 60 point deduction. City got a taste of the possible repercussions when Chelsea were fined \u00a310m despite co-operating with the proceedings.<\/p>\n
Almost a year and a half ago, a 12-week hearing took place between City’s lawyers and the Premier League, with everyone involved in football awaiting the final outcome. Citi has been accused of 115 violations of financial regulations, although the actual number is believed to be closer to 130. The club strongly denies any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n

With all this in mind, Mirror Sport has delved deeper into the latest information on City’s financial charges, including the timeline, hints at punishment and shocking claims of point deductions.<\/p>\n
timeline verdict<\/h3>\n
In mid-March, The Athletic reported that anonymous sources on both sides of the case had not received an update on the deadline from the independent commission.<\/p>\n
However, the Independent’s Miguel Delaney revealed earlier this week via the Libero podcast that while his latest update suggested the result would be known over Easter, it is now back to sometime during the summer.<\/p>\n

Chelsea’s legal case over alleged illegal payments has drawn attention away from City in recent weeks, with the club’s new owners voluntarily cooperating with UEFA towards a resolution. Still, it took three years for the case to be decided.<\/p>\n
Chelsea’s situation was also discussed on the Libero podcast, with Delaney revealing: “Several Premier League executives have said there could be legal precedent for this case that would make City’s lawyers lick their tongues.”<\/p>\n
Request for \u201c60 points deduction\u201d<\/h3>\n
Former City defender Richard Dunne has given a clear response to speculation City could face a 60-point penalty. “It’s already taken a ridiculous amount of time,” he told Goal. “They reached their conclusion a long time ago, so it’s stupid why it took them so long to publish what they found.”<\/p>\n
\u201cSo it just ruins the whole Premier League at this stage of the season and we have a really interesting chance of a title fight over the next few months.<\/p>\n
“So if they start making decisions now, they’re ruining their own competition. It’s best to leave it until the summer, so they can think about what they’ll do going forward rather than looking back.”<\/p>\n
He added: “I can imagine it’s really damaging for Manchester City because it’s just dragging them down. It’s stuck with them and for myself and other former players and people around the club, every time you do an interview it’s like, ‘But what about this FFP thing?’<\/p>\n

\u201cMan City are doing really well in that they just won the Carabao Cup and they always have really good players who play really good football and everyone always wants to talk about the negative aspects of it.<\/p>\n
“So I think it’s a relief for everyone at Man City that it’s all been dealt with.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it will be a relief for the Premier League to finally make the decision and put everything to bed and let Man City be what they are, deal with whatever happens and get back to focusing purely on football.\u201d<\/p>\n
punishment tips<\/h3>\n
As the Premier League revealed, Chelsea’s cooperation assisted their case in determining fines for financial infringement.<\/p>\n
The statement read in part: “The Premier League Board noted that the club’s proactive self-reporting, admission of the breach and exceptional cooperation throughout the investigation acted as important mitigating factors when considering appropriate sanctions.”<\/p>\n
This is said to be in stark contrast to City, who have accused City of failing to “co-operate and assist the Premier League with its investigation, including providing documents and information to the Premier League in the utmost good faith”.<\/p>\n
This could suggest that City may not be shown the same leniency given to Chelsea if found guilty.<\/p>\n
