C<\/span>Turbulence in the world of sport is nothing new, but the situation between Senegal, Morocco and the Confederation of African Football is straight out of a movie. Senegal, the rightful champions of the 2025 African Cup of Nations, were left speechless after CAF stripped them of the trophy two months after the tournament ended.<\/p>\nCAF’s reasoning was that Senegal’s players left the pitch for part of the final in protest of a highly controversial penalty decision. In the end, the Senegal team returned to the pitch and Brahim Dias saved the penalty, resulting in Senegal’s eventual victory. However, that brief protest was enough for CAF to retroactively punish Senegal.<\/p>\n
CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the AFCON title sparked huge backlash from the football world<\/h2>\n
I must say that practically no one agrees with this decision. The players representing Morocco will not accept the trophy, saying they lost fair and square. CAF may have made its decision, but this is just the beginning of an ugly battle for public attention.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, a day after Senegal filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Senegalese Football Association president Abdoulaye Fall and the national team’s lawyer issued a scathing statement about the situation at hand.<\/p>\n
\nThis judgment cannot even be considered a true sports justice judgment. So crude, so absurd, so irrational. This is a blatant violation of competition law and the principle that the referee’s decision is final. In the face of this administrative robbery, the FSF refuses to kill. We fight moral and legal causes. If CAS leaves this situation unaddressed, the winner of the next World Cup could be decided within the law firm itself.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
All eyes are now on CAS to make the final decision on whether CAF’s decision is valid. If common sense prevailed, Senegal would be declared the rightful African Cup of Nations champions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
