Tottenham Hotspur head coach Igor Tudor learned after Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest that his father Mario had sadly passed away.

The Spurs manager was absent from media duties following the defeat in north London due to an “urgent bereavement with his family”. His former club Juventus confirmed that it was Tudor’s father who had died after paying their respects to the Croatian.

“We are close to Igor Tudor and his family. Juventus joins us in mourning the death of his father,” Juve wrote in a post on X.

Tottenham later released their own statement on Monday afternoon, saying: “Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur is deeply saddened to hear of the death of Igor Tudor’s father Mario. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Igor and his family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Football.london reported in the immediate aftermath of the disappointing result against Forest that Tudor did not attend the post-match press conference and that his assistant, former Chelsea manager Bruno Sartor, would speak in his place.

He told reporters: “This is a personal family matter and obviously a difficult moment for him. I’m just trying to support him in the best way I can.”

Tottenham’s heartbreaking defeat against Nottingham Forest leaves them just one point above the relegation zone, meaning their opponents have moved above them in the league table.

The loss fueled fears that Spurs, who are currently without a win in 13 league games, could be relegated. “The players are affected by the rhythm of the game and we just couldn’t find that rhythm and create more chances,” Salter said.

“I thought the first half, the first 44 minutes, were good, really good. We created chances and got into the box. In the second half, we probably couldn’t cope with the weight of the game.”

After the loss, there were growing calls for Tudor to be fired with seven games remaining. Former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood revealed on Sky Sports News on Monday morning that he would take up the role if offered.

He said: “I don’t think it’s too late. I would keep them in the Premier League. I believe someone with good sense would keep them in the Premier League. They have the quality to do it.”

“You have to make them feel good again, you have to gain confidence within the group. And if you play with Xavi Simons and Romero on the right wing, and Xavi Simons just played his best game in a Tottenham shirt against Atletico Madrid, you don’t get confidence by playing with (Cristian) Romero.”

“I’m sure Xavi is saying, ‘What have I done? In my position, where I’ve been playing so well, you’re playing a player out of position.’
