EXETER, England (AP) \u2014 Barcelona fans who were scheduled to attend their team’s game. champions league<\/span> The game at Newcastle ended up being played 560 miles away at third-tier Exeter City because they went to the wrong stadium.<\/p>\n

The Spaniard traveled south-west from London to St. James’s Park in Exeter, rather than north to St. James’s Park in Newcastle. League 1 club spoke<\/span> Wednesday.<\/p>\n

He arrived at the turnstiles just before kick-off for the match between Exeter City and Lincoln City on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

The club announced on social media: “It was only when he showed his ticket to staff that he realized his mistake.”<\/p>\n

Volunteers at the stadium had alerted the club to the man’s plight.<\/p>\n

“Based on the information we have gathered, we think he came from London. My guess is that he just had St James’s Park on his phone and followed the instructions from there,” Exeter City’s Supporter Experience Officer Adam Spencer said.<\/p>\n

“He was quite depressed and a bit confused, so we arranged for him a ticket so he could watch the game at the real St James’s Park. He is always welcome.”<\/p>\n

Exeter City lost 1-0.<\/p>\n

In Newcastle, Barcelona drew 1-1 with Lamine Yamal’s penalty in added time in the first leg of their Round of 16 clash.<\/p>\n
