The threat of relegation is very real for Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the season, and their 3-1 home defeat to Crystal Palace dramatically reduced the chances of them facing relegation.<\/div>\n

Spurs lost 2-1 to Fulham and suffered a 4-1 humiliation at Arsenal, but are just one point ahead of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n

But after three Palace goals in 12 minutes and Micky van de Ven being sent off, Spurs’ momentum, who played more than half the game with 10 men, completely collapsed.<\/div>\n

Igor Tudor’s side are currently without a win in 11 league games and have a total of 29 points after 29 games, giving them a disastrous Points Per Game (PPG) ratio of 1.<\/p>\n

Following the defeat to Palace, Opta judged Spurs to have a 16.1% chance of being relegated.<\/p>\n

Spurs’ next league game at Anfield will be against Liverpool, who are caught between two fierce Champions League ties with Atletico Madrid.<\/p>\n

Tudor was hired based on his track record of steering teams out of disaster and delivering short-term gains, but the logic behind his interim appointment has yet to materialize. <\/p>\n

He has managed to instantly improve Udinese, Lazio and Juventus in Serie A, but the Premier League is a different story, with Spurs’ players seemingly completely lacking not just their first-class ability but also their confidence.<\/p>\n

Before playing Palace, Spurs were given an 8% chance of being relegated by Opta. After that defeat, this number doubled to 16.1%.<\/p>\n

Spurs finished 17th last season with 38 points. However, at the same stage last year, they had 34 points after 29 games, meaning the threat of relegation never materialized.<\/p>\n

This is mainly due to the poor form of Leicester City and Ipswich Town, who are in 18th and 19th place. <\/p>\n

However, Forest and West Ham piled up points in their final five games of the season, as Spurs officially reached their worst points total after 29 games in the Premier League season.<\/p>\n

This is the first time in 29 games that they have fewer than 30 points. <\/p>\n

The number of points scored has also decreased significantly from last season. At the time, Ange Postecoglou’s side had scored 55 league goals, compared to 39 this season.<\/p>\n

Although they have conceded only 3 more goals than last year, their low scoring ability means they are significantly inferior in goal difference.<\/p>\n

What are Tottenham’s remaining games?<\/h2>\n

Spurs’ woes are compounded by a tough nine games remaining, including trips to Anfield and Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

An important “6 points” showdown will take place against fellow bottom six teams Wolves, Forest and Leeds.<\/p>\n

Four of the remaining nine games are at home, making the season even worse.<\/p>\n

They were overwhelmingly disappointing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, winning just two games there all season and posting a PPG of 0.66.<\/p>\n

Somehow, they have fared better on the road, winning five games, with a PPG of 1.35 and an even goal differential of 21.<\/p>\n

Normally, playing tight games at home would be a boost, but the opposite seems to be the case for Spurs, and more away games should be seen as a positive.<\/p>\n
