Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has apologized to Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesco.<\/h2>\n

Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has apologized to Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesco following his recent form. Sesco most recently scored United’s winning goal against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford last weekend.<\/p>\n
Sesco has nine goals in all competitions this season, including four in his last five Premier League games, and has proven instrumental in six wins in his last seven games under interim head coach Michael Carrick.<\/p>\n
United signed Sesco from RB Leipzig last summer in a deal worth \u00a374m (about \u20ac85m), with Matheus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo and Senne Ramens also arriving at Old Trafford, making him one of four summer signings.<\/p>\n
The Manchester Evening News reported that Sherwood’s first assessment of the Slovenian international came after Sesco found the net twice during a 2-2 stalemate with Burnley in January, which forced United to pick up a point at Turf Moor.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s a positive that Sesco scored two goals,” Sherwood told Sky Sports on January 7. “I hope this gives him confidence. It took him six months to show up at Man United. I’m happy for the player, he’s put up a tough fight.”<\/p>\n

“We took him off the pitch at half-time. He will never wear a Man United shirt again. I stand by what I say, he is not good enough to play for Man United.”<\/p>\n
“He played in one game against Burnley, who are relegated, so fair play to him. Hopefully he’s gaining confidence and we’re starting to see different things in him.”<\/p>\n
Now, almost two months on, Sherwood has apologized to Sesco as the former Tottenham Hotspur manager explains why he was impressed with the United forward.<\/p>\n
“I based my assessment on Benjamin Sesco, who I saw playing under Ruben Amorim, a striker who didn’t want to get up and take penalties against Grimsby,” Sherwood said on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.<\/p>\n
“Even the most ardent Man United fan will admit that he did not live up to expectations last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cInitially I thought he would end up just like Wout Weghorst and fail to sign for the Red Devils, but I was proven wrong and I owe him an apology!\u201d<\/p>\n
“Michael Carrick has completed Sesco’s transformation and is now playing to his strengths. He scores great goals with pride and intimidates defenders with his pace. He is a different player than he was a few months ago under Amorim.”<\/p>\n
“As a substitute, he comes off the bench with attitude and influencing the game. That’s a manager’s dream for a striker.”<\/p>\n
