Michael Carrick has made an impression on the Manchester United hierarchy since taking over as the club’s caretaker manager, leading the club to six wins and one draw after an unbeaten start.<\/h2>\n

Michael Carrick has revealed that he intends to play for Manchester United long-term. There is a growing belief that this job is now lost to him. Carrick, 44, has been unbeaten since taking over as interim manager in January.<\/p>\n
After Sunday’s 2-1 come-from-behind win against Crystal Palace, United have won six of their seven games in charge and drawn one. Combine these with the last two Premier League games he has managed as caretaker manager in 2021, and Carrick has had the best start to any manager in the competition’s history after nine games.<\/p>\n
The Red Devils’ rise to third place in the table and on track to qualify for the Champions League means the former United midfielder has been named as a possible permanent successor to Ruben Amorim. There are also no outstanding candidates to challenge Carrick. Carrick’s agent Joe Tunzi was at Old Trafford on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Newcastle, the 44-year-old made his strongest statement yet that he wants to stay. Asked about the possibility of him taking up the job permanently, Mr Carrick said: \u201cThis will be every week, right?<\/p>\n

“Of course, you can’t escape this situation. To be honest, there’s not much I can say about it. I love being here. I love doing what I’m doing. I’ve said it from the beginning, I’m not making decisions looking for short-term or quick-fix solutions.”<\/p>\n
“If I’m here for a long time, I think it’s my responsibility to make the decisions that are best for the football club in the long term. Of course it helps to win games and the players have done well with that. We’ll have to see how it ends.”<\/p>\n
United have not won in front of fans at St James’ Park since January 2019. At the time, Carrick was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s coaching staff.<\/p>\n

Carrick was born near Wallsend and grew up supporting Newcastle. On Wednesday, he will face Magpies manager Eddie Howe, who United legend Roy Keane has particularly favored as a hot seat at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
\u201c(I) have a lot of respect for Eddie and his staff,\u201d Carrick said. “I know some of them particularly well and obviously they’re originally from there, so it’s something I’ve been keeping a close eye on.<\/p>\n
“He’s done a great job and the level and duration of success he’s brought to that football club and the feeling he’s created in this whole area is incredible. So, yeah, I think he’s a top manager, a top coach. And he’s going to continue to have success, I’m sure.”<\/p>\n
