West Ham fans staged a protest against the club’s ownership before and during the extra-time win against Burton Albion.

Just before kickoff, a plane circled Pirelli Stadium, dragging a banner that read “Sullivan and Brady out – no more BS.” And 15 minutes later, most of the away supporters held up red cards with “NO MORE BS” printed on them, along with pictures of David Sullivan and Karen Brady.

According to fan website HammersUnited.com, the timing symbolizes “15 years of Brady and Sullivan mismanaging our club.”

Former West Ham goalkeeper Rob Green told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The owners have banned banners inside the London Stadium, so you’re not allowed to raise a protest about signage or anything like that. The fans were innovative.”

Mr Brady is scheduled to meet with supporters towards the end of this month to discuss their concerns.

On the field, Crisencio Somerville’s goal near the end of regular time saw Nuno Espirito Santo’s side advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup. It was Somerville’s sixth goal in seven games and saw off a spirited challenge from a team struggling in League One, but manager Gary Bowyer was disappointed that his players were unable to find the quality of finishing to match their efforts.

He said: “We played very close against a Premier League team but we couldn’t capitalize on the important moments.

“Overall, it was a great opportunity, but I’m a little disappointed that we couldn’t go a little further.

“We have shown our players what Crisencio Somerville can do with the ball…and he has done just that. He is a talented football player.”

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo was pleased with the fringe players he fielded and defended Freddie Potts, who was given a straight red card for a foul on Julian Larsson in extra time.

“I haven’t seen the footage, but what I can share with you is that Freddie is not a violent player. Absolutely not. That’s not the way he plays football.”
